This is the moment Olympic legend Ian Thorpe was pictured rejecting an offer of a white pill-like object by the alleged ex-boyfriend of his current lover, just moments before Sydney's Mardi Gras on Saturday.

Standing outside in Point Piper with boyfriend Ryan Channing, the 33-year-old sports star was seen refusing the item, which was being handed by model Oliver Barry.

The blonde model was pictured taking the white object from his wallet, before he appeared to move it towards the Australian swimmer’s mouth.

Thorpe, however, was seen turning away from the alleged offer, while the long-haired model later placed the item in his mouth.

Ian's manager James Erskine has since denied claims the gold medallist did anything wrong and has claimed the item was a breath mint - Oliver also denied any involvement.

The Daily Telegraph reports Barry - who is signed to Sydney's Gear Models - is 'the captain of a ratpack of young gay men in the Eastern Suburbs.'

A source told the publication: 'Thorpie probably doesn't know what's hit him. Barry is a very connected man.'

Although not much is known about Oliver's past relationship with the sporting ace's current beau, the reported former lovebirds have managed to remain on good terms.  

As recent as February 10, Barry posted a picture of himself with his former flame Ryan on Facebook - it was simply captioned ‘Rooftop Love’ next to a heart-shaped emoticon.

Ryan, 26, also shared the same snap on his Facebook page - alongside it, he wrote 'Summer of [love]' with a heart-shaped emoticon.

Meanwhile, on Saturday Ian was later seen posing for snaps as he and Ryan, 26, attended the Belvedere Vodka Mardi Gras party in Sydney's Paddington. 

The Olympic champion beamed broadly as he smiled for photographers during the arrivals for the bash to which he arrived with the student lawyer.

They posed separately for cameramen despite having arrived together in a chauffeur-driven car.

Thorpe showed off his sunkissed glow as he smiled for snappers, while Channing posed separately with a pal wearing a linen shirt and rolled up tight white jeans and Converse.

Also at the bash were model Elyse Taylor, presenter Emma Freedman and entrepreneur and estranged wife of surfer Nick Fanning, Karissa.

Earlier in the morning, Ryan shared an intimate black and white snap of his legs intertwined with Ian's to his Instagram account.

'Happy Mardi Gras Sydney,' he wrote in the accompanying caption.

A day prior, the pair were seen sharing a tender kiss while out and about in Woolloomooloo, in inner-city Sydney, after heading out for some laid-back drinks by the wharf.

Ian has previously told that he and his beau are 'still getting to know each other' and it seems with each day their feelings grow.

Standing at the iron gates of the Manta restaurant, the statuesque sportsman placed an arm around his model beau's waist and nuzzled his neck.

He was also seen massaging Ryan's shoulders as they made their way towards the venue. 

Though Ian's appearance at the Mardi Gras parade was never confirmed, the retired sportsman was due to host a panel as part of the film festival.

He was poised to appear alongside fellow sports stars Matthew Mitcham, Sally Shipard, Daniel Kowalski, Shelly Gorman-Sandie and Casey Conway.

As Australia's most successful Olympian, Ian achieved fame at the tender age of 15 and has been in the public's eye ever since.
