Harrison told New York Daily News Confidenti@l at the event: 'She [Georgia] is joining me to thank FACES. I admire a lot of things about her. I admire her perseverance, her talent, her strength. She’s my hero. I love her.'

The Star Wars star explained how the disorder has affected everyone in their household as he said: 'When you have a loved one who suffers from this disease, it can be devastating.

'You know how it affects their lives, their future, their opportunities and you want desperately to find mitigation. You want to find a way that they can live a comfortable and effective life.'

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder which affects people of all ages often resulting in recurrent, unprovoked seizures.

Things have not been easy for the family but they have bound together to give the 25-year-old the best doctors, treatment, medication and therapy.

He also gushed about her doctor Orrin Devinsky, MD and the organisation Finding A Cure For Epilepsy and Seizures (FACES).

Later on in the evening, he gave a speech at the event held at Pier 60 at Chelsea Piers as he detailed how Georgia had her first seizure as a child during a sleepover.

Harrison described the horror as her epilepsy had gone un-diagnosed and she was given migraine medication.

He went on to say: 'A few years later she had another big one, this one on a beach in Malibu, where a Hollywood director found her, luckily.

'I said to myself this is Los Angeles, we have some of the best doctors in the world, they must know what’s wrong with her. But nothing was diagnosed as epilepsy.'

Then years later while he was studying in London, they decided to give NYU a try.

He then reportedly fought back tears as he said: 'Dr. Orinn Davinsky, who is a dear friend, made the diagnosis: epilepsy. He prescribed the right medication and therapy; she has not had a seizure in eight years.'

Georgia has had a few acting roles herself starring in True Story with Jonah Hill and James Franco and short The Visitor last year.
