Another couple bites the dust! The only Married at First Sight stars to stay together after the end of the show reveal they have also SPLIT, blaming a lack of intimacy

The Married at First Sight couple who had instant chemistry on their wedding day have revealed that they have split less than six months into their marriage as they both admitted that they stopped being intimate. 

On Tuesday night's reunion episode of the FYI reality series, Vanessa Nelson, 27, tearfully confessed that she and her husband Tres Russell, 27, weren't able to make their marriage work after the camera stopped rolling. 

'Me and Tres, we are not together anymore,' she told the show's resident sociologist Dr. Pepper Schwartz as she started to cry. 'Things just fell apart. We stopped being physically intimate. I felt bad about myself for a while because I felt like, "What's wrong with me?"'

Still hope? The two, who were the only pair who agreed to stay married, have yet to file for divorce 

Tres and Vanessa had immediate attraction from the first moment they set eyes on each other on their wedding day, and before she dropped her bombshell, Vanessa recalling that their honeymoon was fun, noting that it was 'nice' to have some time away from him away from their families.

Dr. Schwartz was quick to point out that they were first - and most likely only - couple who had sex together, explaining that in her eyes 'that's always a good sign'.

'For me that was an important aspect of communication,' Vanessa said of being intimate with Tres. 'I felt like I could be open. I felt like I could let my guard down, and I felt like I really could like this person and I felt like love could be in our future.'

However, the couple had their fare share of issues, including Vanessa's trust issues that stem from being abandoned by her father as a teen. 

Vanessa recalled how hurt she was earlier in the season when Tres brushed off the idea that he loved her in front of his friends. She was so angry that the next day she stormed out of their marital home and stayed at her apartment for a night. 

'I mean even like Tres and I, I can see places where we balanced each other out, but it felt like when we noticed our differences, we didn't see them as assets, we saw them as roadblocks,' she said. 

When Dr. Schwartz replied that a couple's differences are 'really opportunities', Vanessa sounds irate as she shortly replies: 'Yeah.'

Hard to handle: Both Vanessa and Tres broke down in tears as they spoke of the dissolution of their marriage 

After admitting that they were no longer together, Vanessa explained that their relationship started to unravel when she and Tres got into a heated argument after he didn't come home until 5am one night. Vanessa noted that 'really mean things' were said.  

'Tres tells me that he doesn’t have romantic feelings for me,' she recalled. 'Things weren’t perfect at all, but I thought it was at least based on that we liked each other.

'I guess he just realized one day that he didn't really like me.' 

However, despite Tres' cruel words, Vanessa, who is still technically married, told Dr. Schwartz that she is 'still optimistic' about being in a relationship with Tres because she doesn't give up easily. 

Dr. Schwartz admitted to the cameras that after speaking with Vanessa, she was a bit nervous about her upcoming chat with Tres. 

'I just felt like at times we would take all these steps forward, and [then] we would have to start all over,' he recalled of their relationship struggles. 

Tres went on to say that it started to feel like it didn't matter what he said, noting: 'After a while I got burned out on trying to prove myself.'

However, when it comes to the heat sizzling out of their relationship, Tres said he takes 100 per cent of the blame because he thought by focusing on building a stronger friendship, they would ultimately save their marriage.   

Different ideas: Vanessa admitted that she was hurt when Tres stopped being intimate, and he revealed he thought that their relationship would get stronger if they focused on being better 'friends' 

Still hurts: Vanessa noted in the reunion special that she was really upset about how Tres joked that love was too strong a word to describe their relationship during their Fourth of July party 

'Intimacy just died out for us, which is definitely a mistake when you’re married,' he said. 'And it definitely brought out a lot of insecurities in her, which I understand.'

Tres also got a bit tearful when he said he realized that the 'pressure' of their marriage wasn't bringing him happiness anymore. 

'Communication never really picked up for us,' he admitted. 'I felt like I was walking on eggshells a lot of the time.'

When Dr. Schwartz asked him if he would ever consider trying to repair their marriage instead of eventually getting a divorce, and Tres maintained that he does care about Vanessa. 

'To me it would suck to not end up having our marriage work and not be able to leave as friends, and then there is resentment,' he said. 

However, it seemed that he would rather walk away as friends than work on their marriage. Dr. Schwartz brought them together and they both apologized for the roles they played in the decline of their relationship. 

Meanwhile, Tres stressed to Vanessa that he never meant to hurt her, and she confessed to sharing harsh words with him out of anger. They both agreed to have dinner together the next night so they can try to repair their friendship - and maybe even their marriage.    

Can't say it enough: Samantha Role, 30, tearfully apologized to her Neil Bowlus, 31, for the way she treated him on the series six months after he asked her for a divorce

Interesting: While Neil asked for a divorce, the two have yet to file the paperwork - meaning they are still married. It appeared that Sam hopes to one day rekindle their relationship, but for now they are friends

Meanwhile, six months after Neil Bowlus, 31, asked Samantha Role, 30, for a divorce, it was revealed that they have yet to file the paperwork - meaning that like Tres and Vanessa, they are still married. 

'Neil and I tried to work things out after the show ended, and then shortly thereafter, we decided that we would be friends,' Sam explained. 'I have no idea what will happen for us. Who knows, a few years from now, maybe we'll be together or maybe we'll be close friends.'

'I'll always be a good friend to him, though, and I know that he'll always be a good friend to me,' she added. 

When they were reunited, Sam broke down in tears as she apologized for the way she treated him at the start of their marriage.  

'The first couple of weeks were quite rough, and I am sincerely sorry for the way I behaved, the looks I gave, the nasty comments I made, and being so judgmental,' she said tearfully. 'I'm sad because if I were you, I would have asked for a divorce to because I didn't like what I saw in me.

'I don't think there are words to express how sorry and ashamed I am of how I treated you.' 

There appeared to still be a great deal of mutual affection between the former couple, as Neil assured her that that she doesn't have to use any 'words' because her emotions 'tell it all'.

Mutual love and respect: The former couple shared a heartfelt hug after Sam's earnest apology 

Old friends? Sam laughed after Neil offers her his sleeve so she can wipe her nose after crying 

'This is incredibly real. Your words won't tell anything more,' he added prompting Sam to start sobbing and reach for a hug. 

After they parted, Neil offered his ex his sleeve, explaining: 'If I had a tissue, I'd offer you one.'  

And while the couple's relationship did end, Dr. Schwartz pointed out that she was truly moved by how hurt Sam was that she hurt Neil. 

The sociologist insisted that Sam needs to learn to forgive herself and love herself for who she has become after the social experiment. 

Neil and Sam were later filmed enjoying a happy lunch together, and while she seemed content on being friends for now, there was some indication that she hoped their relationship would evolve in the future.  

'There’s some hope in me that there’s some future for these two,' Dr. Schwartz noted.  

Final decision: Sam broke down into tears over the thought of Neil divorcing her on last week's finale 

Looking nervous: Sam admitted that she was an 'evil b***h' to Neil during the start of their marriage, but said she has grown to 'cherish' him before she revealed she wanted to stay married 

However, fans were hardly surprised when Ashley Doherty, 30, asked her then-husband David Norton, 30, for a divorce after six weeks of marriage despite him sharing his desire to stay married and keep working on their relationship. 

'There is love here, and it exists. I know it because I've felt it,' he pleaded with her during their meeting with the show's relationship experts. 'Maybe you haven't felt it, but I've felt it. You know that I want to stay married. You know that's my decision.' 

However, their marriage seemed doomed from the get go, as Ashley confessed that she wasn't attracted to him physically and David was later caught asking another woman out for drinks.  

'I'm not saying he did everything wrong,' Ashley said six months later. 'You know, we are both human beings. No one is perfect. I am not perfect. That's for sure. 

'But then asking out another woman... It just doesn't add up. You can't be committed and then asking out another woman. It just doesn't go together.'

While Dr. Schwartz insisted she is not blaming Ashley or doling out judgement, she pointed out that David was always on camera how wonderful she is. 

She went on to theorize that maybe David's actions later in their marriage was the result of the anger and rejection he felt. 

Sad moment: After Neil asked Sam for a divorce, she ran out of the room crying. Dr. Pepper Schwartz, the show's resident sociologist, can be seen comforting her while she sobbed in the parking lot

Keeping it cordial: The two shared a hug before parting ways at the end of the episode, and it seems that they have managed to remain respectful towards each other 

However, Ashley wasn't buying the sociologist's explanation, and maintained David was completely wrong.  

'I mean that is no excuse for his behavior,' she said. 'You know, he asked out another woman when he was married and he got caught.'

Dr. Schwartz questioned if David ever apologized to her privately in a way that made her feel like she could forgive him, and Ashley says that never happened.   

'No, and I wouldn't expect him to,' she said. 

The relationship expert eventually asked Ashley if she would be willing to see David and speak with him about their marriage, and she revealed that she did not want to be in the same room as him. 

'I don’t see [that] there’s any reason for us to get together,' she said, noting: 'It would end up doing more damage than good.' 

During her separate meeting with David, he admitted that it was painful to watch his desperate interactions with Ashley. 

Not regretting her divorce: When asked to reflect on her ex-husband David Norton, 30, asking another woman out for drinks, Ashley Doherty, 30, insisted that there is no excuse for his behavior 

Thanks, but no thanks: Ashley said she wanted a divorce following their tumultuous six-week marriage, despite David's pleas that they could make it work 

Final words: Before they left their marital home for good on last week's episode, Ashley tried to talk to David, but he had nothing left to speak to her about

'I'm like, "Man, David, take a hint!"' he said with a laugh. 

When Dr. Schwartz pressed him about making plans with another woman, he maintained that cheating on Ashley was not his intention. 

'I still can't fully grasp what happened, but maybe I was looking for some validation from one of her friends saying, "Hey, you're a great guy. She doesn't know what she's missing,"' he said. 'It's tough getting kicked in the teeth every day, but my intention was not to cheat on my wife.'

And it has been clearly a rough year for David.  Last month, an old police report emerged, revealing that David 'grabbed' his ex-girlfriend and 'pushed her to the ground' during a 2007 fight which resulted in his arrest.

The report came just one day after David made a statement denying all allegations that he had been physically abusive towards an ex, despite admitting that he had been involved in a domestic disturbance withe a former partner, and was 'cited for disorderly conduct' following a 'loud fight' between them.

'I was arrested when I was 21, after I got into a loud fight with my brother when I caught him with my girlfriend,' he said of the arrest record.

'I smashed a phone in anger, and I wanted nothing more than to get them out of the house. While I was angry, I never hit anyone. I was cited for disorderly conduct, and I ended up attending one two-hour class.

'Neither my girlfriend nor my brother ever filed charges, and I was never convicted of any crime.'
