Helen Mirren, 70, works timeless glamour as she steps out wearing LBD for chat-show appearance in New York

She may be 70 years old.

But Helen Mirren was living proof that glamour is timeless when she stepped out in New York City on Monday evening.

The critically-acclaimed actress cut a stylish figure as she arrived for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert filming at Manhattan's Ed Sullivan Theater, where she deftly turned heads.

Keeping it classy in her choice of attire, the British performer wore a form-fitting black dress which featured embroidered detail.

Featuring three-quarter length sleeves, the conservative hemline - which stopped just below her knees - also gave onlookers a view of her legs and impressive footwear. 

These were black leather wedges, which matched her designer sunglasses. Also clutching a blue snakeskin handbag, she oozed glamour and playfully blew awaiting fans a kiss.

The Academy Award winner is currently filming dramatic comedy Collateral Beauty, which boasts a star-studded cast including Keira Knightley, Kate Winslet, Will Smith, Naomie Harris and Edward Norton, in the city.

The American flick tells the story of an advertising executive, played by Smith, who falls into a deep depression following a personal tragedy.

Helen plays an actress hired by his colleagues as part of a plan to break him out of his dark spell.

Collateral Beauty is directed by David Frankel whose credits include 21, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and Rock Of Ages.

It's the first time that Hollywood heavyweights, Helen and Will have made a movie together.

She was pictured on the set earlier in the week and she was seen doing her best jazz hands as she prepped herself for her scenes.
