Swimwear shopping can be a daunting task. When choosing a suit that suits you, the goal is to play up your best assets in styles that fit and flatter your frame.

While tweaks have been made to the original Baywatch swimsuit, it's no surprise that one design element remained the same: the French Cut silhouette (below). Exposing the upper thigh area, the sexy shape elongates the leg, minimizes hips and shows off a pert posterior.

Whether you're looking to show off or slim down, balancing your proportions is the name of the game.

A smaller chest requires less support, so you have the option to look for suits with less coverage or designs with sewn-in push-up pads to boost the girls and create cleavage.

If you're well-endowed on top and need a little extra lift, ditch triangle tops and strapless silhouettes for styles with molded cups, underwire and adjustable straps.

For a straight up-and-down athletic shape, strategically placed cut-outs create curves, as do built-in piping and color blocking.

Side shirring details (above left) and a cross over bodice visually slims the torso. These design details are the answer for someone who carries weight in their midsection.

If you're shapely all over, the key is to highlight your curves (above right) while providing support and the coverage. But keep in mind that too much fabric calls attention to the area you're trying to mask.

With the power of suggestion being much more alluring than the overexposed, hardware accents like a front zipper closure (below) make one-piece bathing suits sexier than even the tiniest bikinis.
