'Helen did it, why can't I?!' Sally Field one-ups Dame Mirren as she gives Stephen Colbert passionate kiss on The Late Show

He was left speechless when Helen Mirren greeted him with a soft kiss during his show on Tuesday night.

And Stephen Colbert couldn't believe his luck when his next guest Sally Field, 69, made the same gesture as she walked on The Late Show set the following day.

The 51-year-old was astounded as the actress gave him a lingering five-second smooch after beckoning him with her index finger.

Colbert had to dip behind his desk as he tried to regain his composure after the saucy moment. 

'I figure Helen did it, why cant I?' the Mrs. Doubtfire star told the TV host after the PDA. 

'You won't get an argument from me' replied the comedian as he polished his glasses.

'This job is getting better and better every day' he added before revealing he's always admired the Flying Nun star.

'It goes without saying I had a crush on you when I was a child...it's just been revived in a large way' Colbert joked.

On Tuesday night Mirren walked onto the set of the CBS show and gave the TV personality a soft kiss on the lips. 

The 70-year-old star left Colbert stunned and speechless after he went to shake hands but the Oscar winner put one arm around his head and pulled him in for a sexy smacker.

She then jauntily continued on to take her seat leaving Colbert standing and lost for words.

It took him a little time to regain his composure before joining Mirren at his desk.

'If I didn't do it then, I'd never get to do it,' the star of The Queen explained to a still stunned Colbert.

'I have been dreaming of doing that for 15 years, so I just grabbed my chance. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.'

Reeled him in: The actress, 70, left the talk show host stunned and it took him some time to regain his composure

'I suddenly can't remember any questions,' Colbert replied, as the audience laughed.

'That is one of the nicest greetings any guest has ever given me,' he told the actress.  'Wow! You know what you're doing.'

Colbert went on: 'Can you imagine the number of people who are jealous of me right now?'

'Including me, when I watch it. I'll be going, why didn't I do more?' Mirren saucily responded.

'The night is young Dame Helen,' the Late Show host said flirtatiously.
