'I was shocked': Gillian Anderson reveals she was offered half the amount of co-star David Duchovny for The X Files as she admits she's not ruling out another series

She's a self-identified feminist and Gillian Anderson has revealed how she handled the situation when she discovered one of her male co-stars had been offered double of what she had for the same series in which they both play leading characters.

Talking on Saturday's episode of The Jonathan Ross Show, The X Files actress told how David Duchovny was offered a significantly heftier pay packet for the latest run of the sci-fiction series but she refused to accept it.

The 47-year-old - decked out in Atelier Swarovski jewellery and an Antonio Berardi dress - explained: 'I knew that from the beginning and there was a reason why [David Duchovny was being paid more than me] because I was starting from nothing and he had just done a big film but there was a certain point where we were doing the same amount of work and it was time to renegotiate. And I did.

'We got the phone call with what the offer is, we knew what David’s offer was this time around and it was twice as much as my offer was. Which is stupid really because I’m going to find out and worked really hard for parity back then and was kind of shocked.

'I don’t know it was silly. So it’s always been that David’s team does the negotiating and then I just say, [I want what he’s having] basically.'

Gillian - who plays FBI Special Agent Dana Scully in the popular series - added that she's not ruling out the possibility of filming more episodes, stating it'd be a case of getting timings right.
