A bit of fun... or hugely inappropriate? 'Hot Migrants' Instagram account listing 20 attractive men who are trying to reach Europe divides the Internet

The 'Hot Migrants' Instagram account is dedicated to all the 'handsome men on their journey to Europe', reads the description

‘Their countries might be falling apart but their sex appeal still goes strong,’ the account description reads 

The account lists photos - mostly TV grabs - of about 20 'hot' refugees with captions like 'pretty in pink', 'waiting handsomely for a better life', 'migrant Wolverine' and 'quite the seductive stare'

The pictures have triggered an angry reaction by some Instagram users, who called on the creator to delete the account

The author, a 20-something living in Washington DC, told The Cut that 'there is something to be said about finding comedy in such a tragedy'

'This whole account is a f*****g mess - deliberate objectification and harmfully reductive commentary on people whose lives hang in the balance,' someone said

‘I created this account after watching a video from the refugees and migrants who were stuck behind the border fence in Idomeni,' the account creator said.

‘One of the people who was pleading for the borders to open caught my eye and I found myself recounting how many other times I pondered about some of these people’s fates,' the account creator said

‘It’s a bit surreal to ‘objectify’ people who are fleeing war and broken countries… It is hard to overlook these people if you aren’t seeing them through their trek in Europe and it’s easy to dismiss them because the reality is far removed from you,' the account creator said
