He's been living the high-life in Los Angeles since parting ways from his record label and going solo.

And Cody Simpson appeared every inch the rock star as he was spotted arriving at a charity event in Palm Desert, California on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old wore thick rimmed glasses on the day and opted for a grungy ensemble in a stained blue shirt and black jeans at the Desert Smash celebrity tennis fundraiser - where he took to the stage to perform later that evening.

He also wore a black garment under the tatty work shirt, and accessorised with a couple of bracelets and a pair of funky, leopard print sunglasses.

He finished off his cool, scruffy chic look with a pair of black Chelsea boots and wore his blonde hair in his now-signature undercut style.

The Pretty Brown Eyes singer enjoyed a spot of relaxation as he strolled through the The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa at Rancho Mirage ahead of his gig.

Cody, who hails from the Gold Coast, looked confident as he performed at the celebrity-packed event, which raises funds for the St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.

With a blue guitar slung over his shoulders, he crooned into the microphone while many female fans swooned in the front row.

Elsewhere, he posed for publicity shots for the 12th annual event - which was also attended by singer-songwriter Sia, rapper Ja Rule, and pop star Natasha Bedingfield.
