But by Friday, Cheryl Fernandez Versini was feeling in a cheerier mood as she shared a stunning smiling selfie on her page.

After having her say on female rivalry, Cheryl told her fans that she didn't intend to be 'cryptic' in her previous message and simply wanted to speak out on a cause close to her heart.

The selfie sees Cheryl dressed in a pretty print top with a big smile on her face.

A pretty splash of blusher, glossy lips and lashings of mascara meant the star was ready for her closeup, while her brunette hair framed her face.

In the caption the X Factor star was keen to clear up the reason behind her post from the night before.

She told her fans that the new snap was 'just a simple selfie Btw... My posts are not ever intended to be "cryptic" or hold "hidden message".'

'If they're quotes then they're usual on general topics I care about and not about any personal situation I may be experiencing at the time. Not my style.'

She ended her post with a cheery: 'Have a nice day.'

The message referred to a lengthy post shared by the star the night before, which was headlined with the words: 'Girls compete with each other, women empower one another.'

Cheryl wrote that she was struggling to understand why women turn against each other, telling her 2.3million followers:

'It can be so hard at times being a girl, for sooo many reasons! But we don't have to make it harder for each other.. Why do we still feel the need to do that ??'

Continuing the message, which has been liked over 26,000 times, the ex Girls Aloud star wrote: 'I don't understand it. I have always been a Girls girl, and love other strong women. That is why I surround myself with them, and that is why I try to empower others.'

'Trying to pull another person down, only speaks volumes about your character.! And not a thing about theirs.. There's nothing more powerful or beautiful than an inspiring, strong women that you can look up to or turn to... Be one!!!' she finished.

The dinner comes just a day after a besotted Liam posted a gushing message to his girlfriend.

Posting an image of her on Instagram on Tuesday, Liam revealed just how deep his feelings for the 32-year-old run.

In a bizarre move following his gushing post, Liam, who seldom uses Twitter, moved over to the microblogging site to share a rather ominous sentiment, which seemed to refer to social media critique of his relationship.

He shared with his 22.4million followers: 'Wow the Internet is a dark place these days'.

The social media activity comes after his ex-girlfriend Sophia Smith, branded their romance as 'so weird.'

Sophia - who dated the One Direction star for two years - admitted that she finds their relationship bizarre, and that she has known about their surprise union for some time.

Speaking to Now magazine, the 22-year-old said: 'It's SO weird. I knew about them a little bit ago, but who thought it would actually come out?'

The fashion business student added, when if she's feeling alright about Liam and Cheryl being together: 'Yeah... I'm okay. I'm all good.'
