'If you want to talk s***, talk s*** about me': Sons Of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam slams 'fans' for bullying long-term girlfriend

He was never one to back down from a fight on Sons Of Anarchy.

And Charlie Hunnam proved he is just as pugnacious in real life after he hit back at female 'fans' who have been cyber-bullying his long-term girlfriend Morgana McNelis.

'It has been brought to my attention that there is a group of immature girls posting a large number of hard messages aimed at my long time girlfriend,' he wrote. 'I would respectfully ask you to stop doing this.'

In a strongly worded letter he had a friend post online on his behalf, he said: 'If you want to talk s***, talk s*** about me. Leave her out of it.'

The actor wrote that McNelis, a jewelry designer whom he has dated for 11 years, is 'an intelligent, beautiful, kind person who just tried to live a simple life and has nothing to do with the entertainment industry.'

However, some of those who follow his social media fan sites - Hunnam doesn't have personal Twitter, Instagram or Facebook - questioned whether the message had indeed come from the British actor.

So the 35-year-old, who is in London, recorded a video message on his smartphone on March 5 to verify that he had asked longtime supporter Tina Lou who runs a fan Facebook page to post it for him.

Yes, it's from me! Hunnam, 37, recorded a video message on March 5 assuring fans that he had written the message about his girlfriend that was posted on his fan Facebook page by his long time supporter Tina Lou

Hey guys. Last week I posted an extract from an email that was sent to us for the attention of " the ladies of social media" asking that these ladies respectfully stop with the extremely vile things being said about his lady. This Video is for them and other disbelievers who said the email was fake, also he gives his take on social media. Have a fabulous week everyone. Don't fret all, we'll be getting him to give all you lovely people a shoutout soon.

In the video clip, Hunnam said the fact that Lou was being 'harassed' for sharing his letter 'is sort of the direct opposite of the message that I was trying to convey, which is simply that life can be very difficult without people going out of their way to be nasty to one another.'

He asked his fans to be 'a little more kind,' adding: 'I don’t do social media but I believe the genesis of it was a way to create a forum for people to make new friends and to express different ideas, not as a new forum for bullying which seems unfortunately to be a very unpleasant side effect of it.'

While it appears that the posts from 'haters' have been deleted from McNelis' social media pages, it seems that she was the target of comments about her looks and her relationship with the star.

'If you knew her you would feel very silly, as my girlfriend is one of the kindest, nicest, most virtuous people I have ever met,' Hunnam told them.

'She has been my loyal and supportive partner long before I had any success or money. Why would you attack her out of admiration for me?'

His message and video have been met with an outpouring of love from fans who support his actions and praised him for sticking up for his girlfriend.

McNelis also received many messages of support on the social media accounts for her business Maison de Morgana, and she responded by posting her thanks.

'I just wanted to say I very deeply appreciate all of the kind words said in my defense,' she wrote on Instagram and Facebook. 'I feel infinite gratitude for all of the support that is being shown towards my relationship and business.'

'I'm deeply touched by the time, effort and thought that went into every word. The outpouring of positivity gave me courage to keep being vulnerable and to continue to put myself and my designs out into the universe,' she said.
