Father of nine-year-old who was 'murdered as part of Chicago gang feud' charged with shooting three people, including girlfriend of one of the men accused of killing his son
- Pierre Stokes, 25, is alleged to have shot three people on Tuesday
- All three survived; one was dating a man charged with killing Stokes's son
- Stokes's son, Tyshawn Lee, was murdered 'execution-style' in November
- Police say he was part of a series of retaliatory attacks between two gangs
The father of Tyshawn Lee, the nine-year-old Chicago boy who was lured into an alley and murdered execution-style in November, has been charged with shooting the girlfriend of one of the men implicated in his son's death, along with two others, police said.
Pierre Stokes, 25, was charged with three counts of aggravated battery with a firearm and one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon after allegedly shooting three people on Tuesday, The Chicago Tribune reported.
One of those hit was identified as the girlfriend of Corey Morgan, 27, who is awaiting trial for the murder of Tyshawn.
Charged: Pierre Stokes (pictured, left) has been charged with shooting three people, including the girlfriend of Corey Morgan (right) who is alleged to have murdered Stokes's son, Tyshawn. All three survived
Murdered: The killing of Tyshawn Lee (pictured) shocked Chicago. Police believe that he was killed as part of a chain of reprisals between two gangs
The 29-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the face, ABC 7 reported, and refused medical attention.
Police said they found a 31-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the left forearm and a 30-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the right arm, ABC 7 said. Both were treated at a local hospital and released.
None of the three victims have been named by authorities. Stokes was arrested on Friday and will appear in court on Monday.
Police say that Tyshawn was murdered because of his father's gang affiliation, and may have been part of an ongoing gang feud.
'Mr. Stokes, who was involved in a gang lifestyle, ultimately suffered an unspeakable loss with the calculated execution of his son. Despite this, he continued to engage in the same gang activity that started this initial cycle of violence,' Chicago Police said in a statement Sunday.
Stokes has vehemently denied being involved in any criminal organization.
Tragic: Tyshawn's coffin is carried to his funeral in this picture from November. Although 400 people were murdered in Chicago last year, the death of such a young child in a gang-related killing shocked the city
Suspect: Police say that Dwright Boone-Doty (pictured) admitted to shooting Tyshawn after luring him into an alley from a playground. Boone-Doty reportedly wanted to torture the boy
Stokes's alleged shooting took place on the same day that Dwright Boone-Doty, 22, was charged with murdering Tyshawn.
Boone-Doty reportedly told police that he played basketball with the boy then lured him into an alley after promising to buy him 'whatever he wanted' from a toy store before shooting the child three times.
He said he had wanted to torture the boy first, and was tempted to return to the playground to 'shoot it up,' killing the other children there.
Boone-Doty is believed to be the only shooter, but police suspect that Morgan was also involved in the crime.
Police say Tracy and Stokes were in rival street gangs - the Black P Stones and the Gangster Disciples, respectively.
On October 13, Tracy Morgan, brother of Corey Morgan and a member of the Terror Dome faction of the Black P Stones, was shot to death after leaving a meeting hosted by police to discourage gang members from committing acts of violence.
Morgan's mother was also injured in the shooting.
It is believed that this may have ultimately led to Tyshawn's death
Dwright Boone-Doty is also linked to the shooting of 19-year-old Briana Jenkins in October, which is also believed to be gang related.
