Ricky Gervais enjoys swanky dinner with co-star Eric Bana ahead of premiere of new Netflix comedy Special Correspondents

They are weeks away from setting Netflix alight in new movie Special Correspondents.

So Ricky Gervais and co-star Eric Bana no doubt had plenty to discuss as they hit London's exclusive eatery The Ivy on Saturday night.

The 54-year-old funnyman went for his unique brand of smart casual while his heartthrob dinner companion, 47, was rocking a suave grey suit.

Ricky went for his tried and tested V-neck T-shirt look, which he topped off with a slick velvet blazer yet dressed things down with a pair of jeans. 

Seemingly flaunting a disregard for the swanky nature of the establishment, The Office star and creator was sporting black trainers with metallic silver piping.

A smattering of designer facial hair completed the pared-down ensemble while his hair was slicked back in a casual do.

Eric dressed things up a tad more than his British counterpart as he opted for a full suit - yet chose to layer his blazer over a crew-neck T-shirt rather than a shirt. 

He tucked his glasses into the neckline of the navy top while completing his look with the addition of a pair of brown brogues.

The Australian-born star wore his salt and pepper hued hair in a tousled style, adding more to a relaxed feel to the look.

Ricky wrote, directed and stars in Special Correspondents, which is due for release on the streaming service late next month.

In the satirical comedy, Eric plays a struggling radio journalist who files fake war reports from New York.

Ted Sarandos, chief content officer for Netflix, called the film 'the kind of great grown-up comedy that studios rarely make anymore.'

Ricky, in a statement, called Sarandos 'the new Godfather of entertainment' and said 'he made me an offer I couldn't refuse.'

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Ricky will make The Office movie without the help of Stephen Merchant. 

The duo worked together on the original TV series, but will not be reuniting for the much-anticipated movie - titled Life On The Road - which is scheduled for release next year.

A source told The Sun newspaper: 'Ricky has every right to do a David Brent movie on his own but fans will understandably be gutted to have it confirmed that Stephen is not involved at all.

'Together they created one of the all-time classic TV shows with The Office, and all their projects as a team have been so well received.'
