Law enforcement, surveillance & photos

This section discusses the privacy issues relating to law enforcement, surveillance and photos.

In addition to the Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act), other Commonwealth, State and Territory laws also regulate these issues. Links to more information and where to seek help can be found below.

The Privacy Act covers most Australian Government agencies and many private sector organisations. It does not cover individuals acting in a personal capacity, however, such as a neighbour taking a photo of you.

For general information on State and Territory laws see the Other privacy jurisdictions section of this site.
