Samantha Cameron brought a touch of British boho style to a glamorous New York yesterday.

The Prime Minister's wife, 44, showcased a psychedelic-print Peter Pilotto skirt at the opening of Smythons first store on Madison Avenue.

The mother, who is a part-time consultant for the luxury leather goods brand, cosied up to A-list guests including Emily Mortimer - and even clutched Melanie Griffith's hand in a rare display of affection.

Ever stylish, Mrs Cameron paired her statement skirt with an oversized blouse in black to play-down the bright purples and greens of her skirt.

A simple pendant necklace and a black waist cinching belt was all she needed to complete the outfit at the opening

Actress Emily, who divides her time between the UK and US, supported her fellow countrywoman at the bash.

The 44-year-old actress wore a semi-sheer top with a full fifties-style skirt, finished with a delicate white bag with a silver chain.

She and Samantha showcased their matching hairstyles as they smiled for pictures.

And Melanie Griffith, 58, also came to bring some Hollywood star power to the event in a high-necked, long-sleeved black tunic with black tights and shoes.

She swept her blonde hair into a messy up do and accessorised with a two-tone clutch on a chain.

She and Sam Cam seemed to get on so well, the pair ended up holding hands as the posed for the camera.

British references were everywhere in the stores' launch including a British bulldog in a top hat and tails named Winston Churchill, who was an honorary guest at the bash.

Mrs Cameron's support for the new branch was unsurprising as she held the role of creative director of the luxury stationery and accessories brand until her husband was elected in 2010.

Although she stepped down from the position, she is still on the payroll as a part-time consultant.
