MARTHA KELNER: It has been a few days since cyclist Becky James won bronze at the World Track Championships when we speak on the phone and her grin carries down the line. ‘I haven’t stopped smiling,’ she says with her soft Valleys lilt. ‘I know a bronze is a bronze but for me it felt like a gold medal.’ It took blood, a lot of sweat and many tears — not to mention a team of rehabilitation specialists and a highly rated sports psychologist — to get her to the start line.
