Guy Ritchie has gone to campaign group Fathers4Justice for advice on his custody fight with Madonna over their son Rocco, 15.
Representatives for Mr Ritchie, 47, contacted the group for a ‘jargon-free rundown’ of a father’s parental rights.
The campaign group’s founder Matt O’Connor told the Daily Mirror: ‘Millions of fathers will understand the pain Madonna is going through after being separated from her son, Rocco.
‘It is rare for a mother to experience this kind of loss. However, there is no justification for publicly denigrating Rocco’s dad.’
A High Court judge has to decide whether English proceedings should draw to a close or whether he should make decisions about Rocco's welfare.
Earlier this month he said it was 'highly unfortunate and deeply regrettable' that the 'unfortunate family dispute' between the parties had arisen.
It was previously reported that Madonna, 57, had told friends she has 'lost the battle' and conceded her son did not want to live with her.
The popstar, who is on tour in Australia, wants to continue with one set of proceedings in New York which are due to resume in June.
Her behaviour has become increasingly erratic during her world tour, which has been overshadowed by the highly-publicised custody battle.
Concerts have been marred by mumbling lyrics, late starts and stumbling choreography. In one show she begged: 'Someone please f*** me', while swigging from a fan's hip flask.
In the latest in a string of bizarre antics, Madonna humiliated a young woman by exposing her breast after inviting her on stage in front of thousands of fans.
The singer shocked fans once again last night when she invited the female concert-goer to join her on stage before exposing her breast in front of the crowd in Brisbane, Australia.
The humiliated brunette stood open-mouthed as the 57-year-old pop icon described her as 'the kind of girl you just want to slap on the a**', before adding: 'Oh s**t. Oh sorry, sexual harassment.'
It was feared the singer would face legal action over her behaviour, as Australian law deems it a crime to touch someone indecently without their consent, but Queensland police told Daily Mail Australia no complaint has been lodged.

Mr Justice MacDonald began listening to submissions at a private hearing in the Family Division of the court last week after Rocco has not returned to his mother's home since last December.

Madonna had made an application under the Hague Convention, which deals with the abduction of children, for the return of Rocco who was said to have been illegally retained and not returned as originally planned.
Her counsel David Williams QC said the star was 'hoping that the trust between a mother and her son will be strong enough to accept that this is what she truly wants'.
Mr MacDonald also imposed reporting restrictions on several aspects of the case in a bid to protect Rocco. Neither Madonna nor Guy were present at the court.
He has previously expressed a 'fervent hope' that the pair will settle and resolve the issues between them.
