Hang on, little sister: The incredible story of a girl born weighing less than a baby's bottle and with skin so thin her organs could be seen through it - who survived with the love of her healthy twin

Adelaide twin who was same length as a pen at birth now healthy 5 year old

Lily Cobbing was the same length as a ballpoint pen when she was born at just 27 weeks with her twin sister, Summer, and weighed just 390 grams. The girls' birth at a hospital in Adelaide was induced at just 27 weeks because Lily was struggling in utero. Doctors warned their mother that Lily would likely die in the womb, and that Summer would not be able to survive if that happened. To give Summer a chance at live, the girls were born three months early. Summer was relative healthy, but Lily's skin was see-through and her ears and eyes had not fully formed and doctors did not expect her to survive. A photograph of the girls shortly after their birth shows Summer giving her little sister a hug (main picture). Five years on, the twins are still inseparable (right) and Lily is a healthy and happy schoolgirl.
