Mariah Carey is BOOED by concert-goers in Leeds as she reaffirms her diva status by keeping fans waiting 45 minutes

She has a playful reputation as a diva.

But, in case that was in any doubt, songstress Mariah Carey reaffirmed that when she performed in Leeds on Thursday evening. 

The 46 year-old star, who is one of the world's best-selling artists, was booed by concert-goers after arriving 45 minutes late for her performance at the city's First Direct Arena.

The acclaimed singer/songwriter was supposedly due on stage at 20.45 for the latest instalment of her Sweet Sweet Fantasy show - but instead arrived at 21.30.

Unsurprisingly, her fans didn't take kindly to the punctuality faux pas, venting their frustrations via social media site Twitter.

One user, Charlotte White, wrote: 'Sat in Leeds First Direct. Where are you, Mariah?', while a second posted: 'Excuse me Mariah Carey, but there are 10,000 people in Leeds waiting for you. Care to join us? #late'.

A few moments later she added 'Lots of boos as we wait for Mariah at the FD Arena. 45 minutes late and counting. Not worth £70!'. 

A third attendee posted a sarcastic tweet which said: 'Don't worry, it's not like I have to be up tomorrow. Oh wait...' 

Another added to the mix by saying: 'Absolute joke how [she] was 40 min late in Leeds tonight :( Saw a grand total of 40 mins of the show.'

Funnily enough, just hours earlier, Mariah herself took to the micro-blogging site to announce her impending arrival - although there seemed to be a suggestion that she was slightly behind schedule. 

The buxom blonde told her 15 million followers: 'My darling #Lambs! As much as I hate leaving this fabulous bed at the @CorinthiaLondon, I am on my way to see you all in Leeds in 30 mins!' 

It was liked and re-tweeted hundreds of times and followed a previous shot of her in Glasgow, where she had performed the evening before.

Fortunately, however,some loyal fans jumped to Mariah's defence. 

One user, Michael from Melbourne, hit back at critics saying: 'Who's complaining that Mariah is late? Hush. Mariah transcends time, dahhhling, you can't hold her to regular standards.'

Another added: 'Despite the fact she was late, Mariah Carey was AMAZING tonight!!'.

Not that the curvaceous star will have much time to dwell on the minor gaffe. 

She will also perform at Manchester's Manchester Arena on Friday night, before dazzling the crowds at Birmingham's Barclaycard Arena on Sunday and Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena on Monday.

She will wrap up her UK sojourn with a performance at London's O2 Arena on Wednesday night. 

MailOnline have contacted Mariah Carey's representatives, but are yet to receive a response.
