Is this the only thing Manchester United will be lifting this season? Premier League title hopes may be over but club confirm new partnership with Gulf Oil International

  • Manchester United have secured three-year deal with Gulf Oil International
  • The partnership is the first of its kind for a Premier League club
  • United hoping it will help boost their already massive following in Asia

Out of the Premier League title race, out of the Champions League and potentially trophy-less but at least Manchester United have secured themselves a lucrative partnership with Gulf Oil International.

Louis van Gaal's inconsistent side may be failing to inspire on the pitch but their off-field deals are still catching the eye.

Red Devils' first team stars Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia were all in attendance during the presentation at the club's Aon Training Complex.

United are in real danger of missing out on the Champions League for the second time in three seasons, so this deal would soften the blow financially, given that it would help increase the club's brand in Asia, where it says it has 325 million followers.

The club's managing director, Richard Arnold, is excited about the partnership between the two parties, which is the first of its kind for a Premier League club, after announcing the deal.

He told the club's website: '(It) already has significant experience in sport and we are looking forward to working with them to expand that into football.

'Through this partnership we will further our commitment to reach our fans around the world, especially in Asia.'

United, who recently announced a 26.6 per cent rise in total revenues for the quarter ending in December 2015, are in the first season of a £750million pound kit deal with sportswear firm adidas..

United's lengthy list of partners also includes car firm Chevrolet and financial services company Aon, who sponsor the club's training ground.

The club is expecting revenue for the year to hit £500m which would be a first for a British club and would mark a successful time off-the-pitch despite the on-field issues.
