That's more than they bargained for! Lush customers amazed when beans from their muscle massage bar started growing into PLANTS

  • £6.50 Wiccy Magic Muscles massage bars contain Aduki beans, for texture
  • If left around water, the beans - often used for cooking - can germinate
  • Number of Lush customers noticed plants sprouting in their plugholes
  • Chain's spokesperson said: 'goes to show how fresh the ingredients are'

Lush customers who purchased a Wiccy Magic Muscles massage bar were hoping that the £6.50 product would help soothe their sore muscles.

But they found themselves in a bit of a lather just days later when they discovered plants sprouting from their plugholes.

The bars are made from organic Aduki Beans, as well as other ingredients including Shea butter, cinnamon leaf oil, peppermint oil and coconut oil.

The beans, which are dark red and often used as ingredients in Asian cooking, create a massaging texture in the bars, but they can germinate if they've been around water for a few days.

In a hilarious thread posted on the Tumblr page S*** I See On Twitter, one amused social media user explained that they gained 'a little friend' to keep them company after they were given the massage bar as a present.

They said that once they had stopped using the product, the Aduki beans began falling out.

They then 'kept kicking' the leftover beans down the drain - only for a small plant to begin growing out the plughole days later.

Plants stemming from Aduki beans can grow up to one or two feet tall and produce yellow flowers.

Rachel Deng, 16, had a similar experience. She told MailOnline: 'I bought this massage bar from Lush and one of the beans fell into my sink.

'A few days later I found this little plant growing out from the drain and I pulled it out and there was the little bean on the bottom!

'And this actually happened twice. I just picked it out.'

The results you get just go to show how fresh the ingredients really are

Instead of using the massage bars in the shower, it is recommended to use them either before or after.

Helen Ambrosen, Lush Co-Founder and Product Inventor, told MailOnline: 'We use organic Aduki beans to create a texture in the massage bar, so that you've got small bead-like shapes to massage the muscles.

'In order for the beans to germinate they must have been left in the shower for a few days.

Another spokesperson from the handmade cosmetics chain added: 'At Lush we love a refreshing shower and a healthy salad, but we agree that it's probably best to keep the two separate.

'For a shower free of sprouted Aduki beans we suggest using your massage bar either before or after going into the shower. You will find your massage bar lasts longer this way too!'
