They may be involved in one of golf's friendliest rivalries but Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler are living very different lives in the build-up to the 2016 Masters.

Both have taken to Instagram to keep fans updated of their movements and its safe to say the two stories could hardly be any different.

McIlroy, gearing up for the Arnold Palmer Invitational which begins on Thursday, has been taking it easy in his hotel room with a jigsaw puzzle and the US presidential primaries for entertainment.

His mate, on the other hand, has been making the most of a rare week off, by partaking in a spot of big-game fishing as well as hanging out with American rock star Kid Rock.

The two golfers first crossed paths when they were on opposing sides in the 2007 Walker Cup and have been friends ever since.

Their bond was made clear when Fowler was the first player McIlroy approached to join the field for 2015's Irish Open at Royal County Down after it was announced that his charitable foundation would become the official tournament host.

'We have become good friends since we played at Royal County Down in the Walker Cup in 2007, so it will be special for us both to go back there' he said following the announcement.

Born just months apart the American and the Irishman have stood side by side as their careers have progressed in a remarkably similar fashion, with both placed inside the world's top five.

There is no doubt both will have their eyes firmly set on April's Masters, Fowler still searching for a maiden major and and McIlroy looking to complete the set.
