Andy Murray gears up for Miami Open with a practice session as he seeks a third title

  • Andy Murray has previously won the Miami Open in 2009 and 2013
  • The 28-year-old lost last year's final to World No 1 Novak Djokovic
  • This year's Masters 1000 Event at the Miami Open begins on Thursday

Will it be third-time lucky for Andy Murray? The British No 1's quest for a hat-trick of Miami Open titles continued on Monday in the East Coast heat.

The 28-year-old worked up a sweat during his practice session on the Florida hardcourts as fine-tuned his preparations for the latest Masters 1000 event.

Accompanied by coach Amelie Mauresmo, Murray worked on several aspects of his game as he looks to go one step further than last year's runner-up finish to Novak Djokovic.

The 28-year-old is hoping to win a third Miami Open title - after previous successes in 2009 and 2013

Murray endured another disappointing display during the Indian Wells tournament last week, suffering a shock third-round exit at the hands of world No 53 Federico Delbonis.

The world No 2 has only ever got beyond the last four of this tournament once - in 2009 - has admitted that Indian Wells is not his favourite venue.

However, that isn't the case for the Miami Open with Murray, which he has won twice before in 2009 and 2013.

The Florida-based city is a home-from-home for Murray, who trains there for a few months per year too - as he alluded to on his official website.

'I spend a few months a year in Miami for my training blocks and my place is only half an hour from Key Biscayne, so this tournament is as close as it gets to home when I’m stateside,' he wrote.

'Because I train on these courts during the year, it means I have a great feel for the surface. I love it here, the weather is incredible and there’s always so much to do.

'I love basketball so I like to try and catch a Miami Heat game or two when I’m out here, I’ve won here a few times over the years and I can came very close to winning it last year, so I’m hoping this year I’ll be able to go one better and win it again.'

Murray's first opponent is yet to be confirmed with the tournament beginning on Thursday.
