'She's lost energy': Louis Walsh reveals he wouldn't return to The X Factor with Cheryl as a judge... as he claims singer should 'go away' and focus on her music career

It's no secret that they possess the most tumultuous of relationships.

And Louis Walsh's latest comments may not help to patch up their tempestuous feelings toward one another after the music manager told The Daily Star that Cheryl Fernandez-Versini should call time on her days as an X Factor judge.

The 63-year-old Irishman has claimed that the former Girls Aloud star has 'lost a bit of energy' and should instead invest her time in making music, rather than judging it.

'Cheryl needs a rest. She's lost a bit of energy, she should go away, make a record and maybe record another hit,' he told the publication.

The 32-year-old singer has already had a roller coaster year after ending her marriage to husband Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini and moving on with One Direction's Liam Payne.

Away from her personal life, Cheryl's music career also proved to be a little volatile with the Call My Name hit-maker boasting two UK number one hits from her latest album Only Human, though her single of the same name failed to place in the UK Top 100, making it her lowest-selling single to date.

While X Factor boss Simon Cowell may have ditched Louis and kept Cheryl on the show's judging panel last year, Louis also claimed that the music mogul regretted his decision to continue the singing competition without him and asked him to consider returning in the middle of the series.

'Simon has already said he wished he hadn't let me go. He wanted to bring me back in the middle of the last series, but I thought it would be odd with five judges,' he dished.

The Irish music manager than added that he would only consider returning the show if Simon recruited the 'right people'.

But that line-up seemingly doesn't include Cheryl, with whom Louis has been mildly feuding with since he acrimoniously stopped working with Girls Aloud in the mid-2000s.

Instead, Louis claimed that the Syco boss, 56, should re-enlist the likes of Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger.

He conceded: 'X Factor went off the boil last year - Simon tweaked it too much. He needs to bring back the old X Factor; have the auditions in a small room.'
