Gwyneth Paltrow says she's 'not very good' at doing her make-up - despite launching her own beauty lines - but admits she uses $705 worth of skincare every day
- The 43-year-old actress is the Creative Director of Make-Up for Juice Beauty, and also has her own skincare line for Goop
- She said that relying on professional make-up artists for 20 years means she isn't good at doing her own make-up
- She also said her 11-year-old daughter Apple, whose father is Gwyneth's ex Chris Martin, introduced her to the very popular Beauty Blender sponge
Apparently, one doesn't need to be a make-up expert to design a make-up line — that is, if one is as famous as Gwyneth Paltrow.
In a new interview with Into the Gloss, the 43-year-old actress and Creative Director of Make-up at Juice Beauty admitted that she relies on professional make-up artists to make her face look camera-ready — and when she's left to her own devices, the results aren't so great.
'I’m not very good at putting on make-up,' she said, 'which is, I think, a result of having had my make-up done for 20-plus years. But now I can do the foundation, a little cheek, and some mascara. Luckily I have my own foundation color because I helped develop it.'
Not a pro: Gwyneth Paltrow has admitted that she is not very good at doing her own make-up, despite having launched her own cosmetic and skincare ranges
In need of assistance: The 43-year-old star said that's probably because she has had professionals doing her make-up for the past 20 years
Guru or not a guru? However, she recently launched her own make-up line for Juice Beauty, and also has a Goop skincare line
Beauty box: She also named a few favorite products from other brands, including Tat Harper's Lip and Cheek Tint (left) and Olio e Osso Balm (right)
Certainly, it's difficult to see why she'd need to develop the skill when she can pay someone else to do it. And even with her limited expertise on the subject, she's managed to head up her own beauty brand, designing the very products she'd like her pricey make-up artists to paint on her face.
Her personal favorites from Juice Beauty are the $19 to $22 mascaras, the $36 illuminating primer, and the $42 serum foundation — which she said are 'foolproof and great'.
Foolproof is clearly a must for the star, whose 11-year-old daughter Apple ('she's very into beauty products') introduced her to the incredibly popular Beauty Blender sponges, which have been around since 2003 and are a longtime staple of make-up artists and nonprofessional beauty fans alike.
Gwyneth is known for having a close bond with her eldest child, whose father is Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, although she revealed in a recent interview with Australian radio station KIIS that when it comes to her kids, Gwyneth doesn't encourage them to follow the same health-conscious diet and lifestyle plans that she promotes on Goop.
‘Luckily they serve lunch at school so that is one thing that is off my plate, thank God,' she said of her kids' lack of food-focused discipline. 'When they went on a field trip, when they were younger it was like, "Oh I'm going to make a little soba noodle salad and a little wrap" and now, literally, I'm like "Here's a Nutella sandwich."'
Just the basics: The actress and Goop blogger said she can do foundation, blush, and mascara
Out of the loop: Her 11-year-old daughter Apple introduced her to the Beauty Blender sponge, which has been out for over a decade and has won many beauty awards
Fancy: Her pricey skincare routine includes May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon, which costs $160
When it comes to her own daily regime, however, it appears that Gwyneth still favors a very natural approach, particularly in terms of her beauty products; during her Into The Gloss interview, she also highlighted the all-natural Tata Harper’s Lip and Cheek Tint, $36, as well as Olio E Osso Lip and Cheek Balm in Number 5 Currant, $28, as being among her favorites.
And while primers, pigments, and plumpers might not be her forte, Gwyneth does have quite an impressive and complex skin routine, piling tons of Goop onto her face.
Every morning, she does an hour of dancing with the Tracy Anderson method, which she insists is 'an important foundation for a skincare routine'.
Then, she washes her face with water before slathering on $100 Goop Revitalizing Day Moisturizer and a sunscreen by either Coola or Drunk Elephant.
Despite naming two SPF favorites in her routine however, Gwyneth admitted last month that she doesn't actually always use sunscreen on her face when she's tanning.
In an interview with Glamour, the mother-of-two confessed: 'I still tan without sunscreen, which is really, totally f***ed up.'
But despite her own bad SPF habits, Gwyneth has been quick to preach about the benefits of a good sunscreen in numerous posts shared on Goop.
Committed: Gwyneth said she starts the day with a workout by Tracey Anderson (right), which she says is important for both body and skin
Very involved: She also shared an extensive skincare routine, which includes hundreds of dollars worth of products
Low-maintenance? Though she has her hair professionally colored (by Tracey Cunningham) and styled, at home she just runs some oil through it after it air-dries
Gwyneth has featured several posts on her lifestyle website about the importance of sunscreen, and even sells several SPF options in the site's e-commerce store - all of which she describes as being 'clean' and free from the toxic ingredients found in many over-the-counter products.
At night, she always removes her make-up with Goop's $90 Luminous Melting Cleanser before using the $125 Goop Exfoliating Instant Facial for two minutes. That's followed by $160 May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon (also available to buy on the Goop website, naturally), $140 Goop Replenishing Night Cream, and $90 Goop Perfecting Eye Cream.
Finally, the star shared how she fixes up her hair when she doesn't have professional stylist David Babaii (or celebrity colorist Tracey Cunningham) on hand to do it for her.
'My hair has three different textures — coarse, damaged, dry blond hair. It’s my nightmare,' she explained.
To get it looking shiny and soft, she washes it with Shu Uemura Ultimate Remedy Shampoo, $48, and Conditioner, $58, then air-dries it and adds hair oils in. Her favorites are a Spanish oil called Orofluido and Rodin by Recine Luxury Hair Oil, $70.
