'We're doing our best': Ben Affleck says he and estranged wife Jennifer Garner are taking it 'one step at a time' as they put their kids first

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner finally seem to be in a good place when it comes to handling their separation and their life with their three children.

The Oscar winner appeared on Good Morning America on Thursday to promote his new movie Batman v Superman: The Dawn Of Justice, and naturally the conversation turned to the recent turmoil in his private life.

But the actor and director said he and Jen have focused on what's the most important, explaining: 'We sort of put the kids first. We just take it one step at a time and do our best.'

The Argo star is back in movie theatres this weekend in the much-hyped superhero showdown movie that's a springboard for a string of DC Comics films from studio Warner Bros.

While the film itself is getting lukewarm reviews, Ben has been generally praised for his turn as a gritty and world-weary Caped Crusader.

He said it was a 'humbling' experience to follow in the lone of actors who have embodied Bruce Wayne, from Michael Keaton to Val Kilmer and George Clooney, and added that he was grateful for the chance to play The Dark Knight.

When Samuel celebrated his fourth birthday with a superheroes-themed party last month, Ben persuaded the studio to let him borrow his Batman suit.

'The studio brought some of the costumers over and they brought the suit over and I put it on and I wrestled about with the other superheroes and tried not to tear anything,' he said.

'I got a little self conscious when I realized there were grown ups there too,' he added. But it was fun. It was great to see the look on his face. That made everything worthwhile.'
