Ahoy, Macca! Paul McCartney lands surprise role in Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

It seems Paul McCartney is taking to the high seas.

The 73-year-old rocker has joined the cast of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Norwegian directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg plus producer Jerry Bruckheimer are adding an extra scene starring the former Beatle to the already wrapped film, Deadline Hollywood reported on Thursday.

The fifth installment in the Disney blockbuster franchise reunites Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa and Javier Bardem as the villainous Captain Salazar.

Orlando Bloom returns as Will Turner after missing out on 2011's Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

There's no news on what role he will play. But Sir Paul's not the first veteran rock star to join the cast.

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards played Captain Teague, Jack Sparrow’s father, in 2007's At World's End and 2011's On Stranger Tides.

The casting was a nod to Johnny, who always said that his character's mannerisms were inspired by the louche rock 'n' roller.

So Sir Paul could be Captain Teague's brother - or a relative of Orlando's Will Smith.

The team has plenty of time to add the extra scene because the film isn’t being released until May 26, 2017.

Meanwhile, Sir Paul and wife Nancy Shevell, 56, were spotted in Burbank, California, where the Disney Studios are based, on Tuesday.

This week it emerged that the veteran hitmaker has launched a bid to reclaim the publishing rights to the early songs he co-wrote with fellow Beatle John Lennon, which have not been in his possession since the very start of his career.
