Nick Jonas dropped his new single Close on Friday along with a steamy music video for the song featuring Tove Lo.

It's the first track from his upcoming album Last Year Was Complicated that's set for release in June.

The former Disney star, 23, took to Twitter to explain that Close, as well as the other new songs he's recorded, are 'so personal and meaningful to me.'

Dug deep: In a series of Tweets Thursday, Nick, 23, explained that Close and the upcoming new album Last Year Was Complicated offers a revealing insight into his personal pain following his split from Olivia Culpo

In a series of tweets, Nick said he's spent the past year and a half making the album and 'pouring everything I have into it.'

The direction of his music, he said, was influenced by his split with now ex-girlfriend Olivia Culpo.

'When I first started making (the album) I thought I knew what it would be about... Then I had a breakup,' Nick tweeted.

Sharing: NIck poured out his heart on Twitter Thursday as he announced to fans the release of his first single from his upcoming album

'It then became very clear what this thing would be about... And that I would need to dig really deep,' he wrote.

He said reliving his emotional pain through his music was difficult but that he wanted to be 'an open book' in his art.

The single Close, he explained, 'is about how I literally can't open up and be vulnerable with someone.'

Partner and fan: Tove, 28, tweeted Friday that she was'honored' to have worked with Nick, whom she called her 'crazy talented friend'

Swedish singer and songwriter Tove appears in the music video for Close with Nick and puts on a very sultry performance.

On Friday, the 28-year-old songstress tweeted: 'What an honor to be part of my crazy talented friend @nickjonas' new single #Close!'

Nick started dating former Miss Universe Olivia in August 2013 and announced in June 2015 that had broken up.

It followed his previous romances with Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Australian Delta Goodrem.

Since the split from Olivia, he's been linked romantically with Kate Hudson, and with Lily Collins.
