Italy 1-1 Spain RESULT: Aritz Aduriz cancels out Lorenzo Insigne's opener as friendly comes to life in the second half

It was a night when those in blue in two different countries could take heart from the hallmarks of an Antonio Conte team.

Italy scurried and pressed with intent on the pitch, making life difficult for Spain and offering hope that Conte's organisation and attention to detail may yet give them hope at Euro 2016.

While, in the directors' box, the manager's brother and agent, Daniele, could be seen in conversation with Gary Staker, one of the backroom team at Chelsea.

That's a wrap...

That's all for now, folks. Thanks for joining tonight and we'll be back a similar time tomorrow where Republic of Ireland host Switzerland and Holland welcome France in two of the evening's six international friendlies. Enjoy the rest of your evening.

21:39
FULL TIME: Italy 1-1 Spain

The referee blows the full-time whistle and it ends 1-1 between Italy and European Championship holders Spain at the Dacia Arena. After a dull first half, the match sprung into life in the second 45 minutes. Insigne proved the difference for Italy after replacing the ineffective Eder while Spain were fortunate that the linesman didn't spot Morata in an offside position in the build-up to the equaliser.

21:38

92 mins: Poor delivery from Insigne, perhaps his only bad contribution in this game, and Spain are able to clear the ball.

21:38

91 mins: Zaza does exceptionally well to beat his marker and earn Italy a corner late in this game. Last chance saloon.

21:36
Three minutes added time

90 mins: Three minutes added time is displayed by the fourth official; about 30 seconds late...

21:35
Italy substitutions

Florenzi and Parolo have been replaced by De Silvestri and Jorginho

21:33

87 mins: We're in to the final stages of this international friendly and both teams are still chasing the win. Antonelli, the Italy substitute, surges down the left and beats his marker with ease before winning a corner.

21:32

85 mins: David Silva, the Manchester City star, plays in a wonderful through ball for Morata but the striker is just an inch or two away from latching on to the ball. The former Real Madrid forward is now replaced by Paco Alcacer, the Valencia striker.

21:29

83 mins: Morata follows Insigne in attempting a chipped effort but Buffon is able to the effort fly over his bar.

21:26

79 mins: Azpilicueta somehow avoids a yellow card despite blatantly brining down Insigne. The Chelsea full back left his foot out to bring down the forward but escapes a booking.

21:25
Substitutions

Juanfran is replaced by Alba for Spain while Giaccherini comes off for Italy with Antonelli, a more defensive minded player, replacing the winger.

21:23

77 mins: Tremendous save from De Gea to keep out Insigne's speculative chipped effort. From the resulting corner, the ball is whipped in my Spain header it clear.

21:21

74 mins: Insigne looks to double his tally from a free-kick but his placed strike is wide of De Gea's goal.

21:17
GOAL: 1-1 SPAIN (70 mins)

You know what they say about London buses? Well just moments after Italy break the deadlock, Spain go up the other end and level the scores. Buffon will be disappointed to have dropped the ball and Aduriz, the 35-year-old striker, was quickest to react and he thumped the ball home. Two goals in three minutes.

Spain's forward Artiz Aduriz scores
21:13
GOAL: 1-0 ITALY (67 mins)

And there it is! We have our first goal of the match and it's Insigne, who has only been on the pitch around 10 minutes, with a decisive flicked-finish which leaves De Gea with no chance.

Italy's forward Lorenzo Insigne scores
21:11

65 mins: Similarly to Pelle, Zaza is putting a shift in as Italy's lone striker but he;s cutting a lonely figure at the moment. Spain playing the ball around in their defence and they seem more than happy to play the waiting game.

21:09

62 mins: De Gea, as he does regularly for Manchester United, comes to the rescue for Spain with Florenzi letting fly with a shot.

21:07

61 mins: Free-kick for Spain as Morata is fouled inside Italy's half.

21:06

59 mins: The substituion nearly pays off for Italy as Insigne lets fly with a long-range effort which De Gea parries away for a corner which is cleared by Spain. Pelle and Candreva are now replaced by Zaza and Bernardeschi.

21:04

57 mins: What happened to Spain? We're used to the free-flowing tika-taka football but the Spaniards are yet to showcase their philosophy tonight.

21:02

55 mins: Morata unfortunate there to get penalised for a free-kick on Juventus team-mate Bonucci. Was little in that and he would have been clear through had he not be pulled back for the foul.

20:59

52 mins: Spain have come out with a different mentality this half and are close to testing Buffon. Neat footwork by Morata nearly puts in Mata but Italy's defence are aware of the danger and clear to safety. Spain keeping the ball on the floor rather than long balls.

20:57
Italy substitution

Eder is now replaced by the gifted Insigne who is having a marvellous season with Napoli.

20:56

49 mins: This second half has started in similar fashion to the whole of the opening 45 minutes; very dull. Just as I type Italy break through the middle but Eder, who has a couple of yards on the Spain defence, is hunted down and tackled inside the area.

20:54

47mins: Eder has failed to impress this evening and his lapse in concentration leads to Spain winning a corner. Fortunately the Italians deal with it and attempt a counter-attack before Juanfran mops up.

20:52
SECOND HALF: Italy 0-0 Spain

The game resumes then with Spain kicking off from left to right at the Dacia Arena. A few changes for both teams with Nacho on for Ramos and Koke for Mata.

20:44
Del Bosque laughs off clash...
20:34
HALF-TIME: ITALY 0-0 SPAIN

The referee blows the whistle for half-time with Thiago Motta receiving a booking just before the break.

20:32

42 mins: Half-time whistle is approaching and it looks like we'll be goalless going into the break. Conte should be relatively pleased with his team's performance though Spain have been surprisingly poor.

20:29

39 mins: Another chance for Italy which could've been awkward for Spain. Pelle's chest-past falls comfortably to Eder but the striker's shot is deflected, slowing down the pass of the ball, and De Gea easily catches it.

20:27

37 mins: The game has slowed down now after a frantic 10 minutes or so. But Spain go and create the best chance of the match. Eder's mistake is pounced on by Spain and Morata attempts to play in Aduriz again> Buffon comes out to intercept the ball though the striker was also flagged for offside.

20:24

34 mins: This time a hopeful long ball nearly works with Spain right back Juanfran surging down the wing. Most of the ball is being played in the middle of the park these last few minutes.

20:22

32 mins: Perhaps surprisingly, Spain are delivering a series of long balls rather than retaining possession. On every occasion, Italy have easily dealt with the deliveries.

20:20

29 mins: Italy will be fully aware that all it takes is a moment of brilliance from Spain to break the deadlock and they were nearly caught out there. Thiago begins the attack before Morata attempts to play in Aduriz who fails to latch on to the ball. Close there for the Spaniards.

20:17

28 mins: Free-kick to Italy in a dangerous area. Candreva lines it up... But the midfielder clips it in and the deflected delivery is easily dealt with by De Gea.

20:15
Smile for the camera, Antonio...

27 mins:

20:14

24 mins: Pelle and Candreva link up excellently once again and the latter delivers a cross which Giaccherini meets with a volley. Spain deflect it over for a corner. Italy are growing into this game now.

20:12

22 mins: Eder gets the first touch of the game before the ball eventually finds its way to Florenzi but he was caught in to minds and his attempted cross is mopped up by De Gea inside the penalty area.

Titter of amusement as Vicente del Bosque collides with the linesman and hits the deck. The Spain boss seems a bit old to be tumbling around but he was up in a flash, high-fiving the linesman responsible. Italy on top here, looking very purposeful. Spain not fluent.

20:09

18 mins: If Italy are to score tonight, I wouldn't be surprised if that man Candreva is involved. This time he links up well with Pelle before over-hitting his return ball to the Southampton striker. But he's looking very lively at the moment and is finding far too much space in midfield.

Antonio Candreva (left)
20:06

16 mins: Great football from Italy again and perhaps they should have scored. Candreva is proving to be a real thorn in the Spain defence and he delivers a wonderful ball into the box but Pelle isn't on his toes and the striker fails to meet the ball in the box.

20:05

15 mins: Our best chance of the night and it goes to Italy. Candreva lets fly with a speculative effort but De Gea does well to get down to his right to palm the ball away for a corner. The resulting set-piece is defended by the visitors.

20:03

13 mins: Both teams are retaining possession comfortably but are yet to create any clear-cut chances. At the moment, Spain look the more threatening however Italy will no doubt rely on the counter-attack. A midfield battle so far.

20:00

11 mins: Spain have a free-kick in a dangerous position but Fabregas puts far too much on it and Buffon, making his 155th appearance for Italy, watches it fly wide for a goal kick.

19:58

8 mins: With both teams fielding experimental sides, it's no surprise that the pace of the game is relatively slow at the moment. Italy played the ball expertly to Giaccherini, the Sunderland man on loan at Bologna, but his touch lets him down.

19:56

6 mins: Free-kick for Spain after Darmian brings down Morata with a clever foul with the striker looking to break down the left. Del Bosque's side looking the more comfortable at the moment.

19:55

5 mins: Morata is partnered by Aduriz in Spain's attack and the pair are playing deep into Italy's half. The hosts break down the right wing and Candreva's teasing cross is dealt with by Ramos. Corner for Italy.

19:53

3 mins: Entertaining start so far with both teams hoping to retaining possession. Morata, who plays his club football in Italy with Juventus, has looked dangerous in this opening exchanges.

19:51
How will Italy cope without key duo?

1 min: With Chiellini and Barzagli both injured for Italy, will the defensive duo be a huge miss for the hosts? There's only one way to find out...

Luigi de Canio takes his seat in the directors box. Former QPR boss De Canio has this month returned for his second spell in charge of Udinese as they fight against relegation from Serie A.

David de Gea’s selection in goal will have Spain fans wondering if this is the start of a new era. Iker Cassilllas started the last game against England, in Alicante, in November, when he won his 165th cap. But De Gea represents the future. At the other end, at the age of 38, Gigi Buffon wins his 155th cap.

Parachutists now descending onto the pitch.

The brand new Dacia Arena, home of Udinese and only the second privately owned stadium in Italian football, looks very fine this evening as it hosts its first international since the revamp. The stadium was completed at the end of last year. It’s first sell out was in Serie A against Juventus and this is sell-out No.2.

Udine stronghold

Italy played their first game in Udine on 17th November 1979: a friendly against Switzerland that finished with a 2-0 victory, courtesy of goals from Graziani and Tardelli. The following two games, both friendlies, were against East Germany (1981) and Austria (1986), and they finished 0-0 and 2-1 respectively.

They returned to beat Slovenia 1-0 in 1995 thanks to a goal scored by Fabrizio Ravanelli during the qualifying campaign for Euro 96 in England, while an Alessandro Del Piero brace gave Italy an important victory against Switzerland on 10th October 1998 on the way to EURO 2000, on a day when Francesco Totti made his debut.

On 10th September 2008 Italy played their most recent game at the Stadio Friuli: the reigning World Champions beat Georgia 2-0 in a 2010 South Africa World Cup qualifiers thanks to two goals by Daniele De Rossi.

Following the Brussels attacks on Tuesday, security is on high alert across Europe. Fans attending the Italy vs Spain clash are thoroughly searched prior to entering the Dacia Arena.

Capello rules out replacing Conte

Former England coach Fabio Capello says he is not interested in taking over the Italy job when Antonio Conte steps down after the European Championship.

The president of the Italian Football Federation, Carlo Tavecchio, said on Thursday that he will speak to Capello 'and others' about the position.

But Capello says 'I'm not planning on meeting anyone ... the national team does not interest me, I'm unmovable on that.'

Capello was most recently in charge of Russia but left the post three years early with qualification hopes for Euro 2016 in danger. Russia did eventually qualify for the tournament.

The Italian won only two of his last 10 competitive matches in charge.

Capello, who has also coached Real Madrid, Juventus, Roma and AC Milan, turns 70 in June.
