Well she is a gourmand! Padma Lakshmi looks in bliss as she tucks into giant pretzel on outing with daughter Krishna in NYC

She is the resident glamour bird on hit TV show Top Chef.

But Padma Lakshmi proved she is not afraid to indulge in more prosaic culinary delights as she was spotted tucking into an enormous pretzel in New York on Wednesday.

She looked in bliss as she munched on the baked delight while out and about with her adorable daughter Krishna in the trendy Soho area.

Despite her love of food, the 45-year-old gourmand was looking in typically fine shape in a tight top, bell bottom jeans and comfortable flat shoes.

The cunning linguist, who speaks English, Tamil, Hindi, Italian and Spanish, added an extra dash of glamour to her look by wearing a pair of oversized sunglasses.

Her adorable six-year-old mini-me, whose father is megarich venture capitalist Adam Dell, looked as cute as a button in a pink dress, leggings and flat shoes.

The self-styled cookery expert appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday, in a pleasantly low-cut top and flared jeans.

And she gave her fans something to remember when she showed the daytime chat show doyen how to make curd rice.

Padma made the dish with her hands, as is traditional, and added asafoetida, black mustard seeds, pomegranate seeds and urad dal.

Initially skeptical, Ellen told her: 'That's so good and so...peppery.'

Meanwhile Padma is finally spilling the beans on her eight-year relationship with famed author Salman Rushdie, appropriately enough in a book of her own, Love, Loss and What We Ate.

She claims the Booker Prize-winning scribe is cruel, vain and sex mad.

Their affair began when, following a successful career modelling lingerie, she was struggling at the age of 28 to move into acting and get her first cookery book published.

She admits they slept together on their first date, saying she woke ‘with a start’ at 3am, she recalls, mortified to find herself ‘naked in a married man’s bed’ and sneaked out of the hotel.

Their passionate affair led to marriage, however they filed for divorce in 2007, little more than three years after they had wed.

Salman previously slammed his ex-wife in a book of his own, criticising her ‘frequent moodiness’, ‘brattish “model behaviour” ’ and frequent coldness towards him.
