'They're building bridges': Sharon Osbourne repairs difficult relationship with Simon Cowell as she 'plots spectacular X Factor comeback'

She's said to have repaired her tumultuous relationship with Simon Cowell.

And now reports suggest that reaching out was part of an ongoing bid for a potential return to the X Factor, for a third time.

Speaking to Radio Times, an unnamed source explained that Mrs. O has put aside her differences, once and for all.

Mending fences: It's well known that Sharon and Simon have had a difficult past, which made her appearance all the more surprising

A source told the magazine: 'Simon and Sharon have always had a bit of a love-hate relationship. Her doing that maybe suggests they’re building bridges.'

ITV has not released any official statement about Sharon's potential return but MailOnline has reached out to Sharon's management and are awaiting a response.

Sharon also recently made a cameo in a spoof segment on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway entitled, Who Shot Simon Cowell?, proving that there's some humour in their love-hate relationship.

In the comedic segment, Sharon played on her famously dysfunctional relationship with Simon: 'It’s a tragedy, a total tragedy, Simon Cowell…survived a shooting. Such a shame!”

That follows Louis Walsh's recent public comments that he would return to the show if his dream line-up - consisting of former judges Sharon and Nicole Scherzinger - also returned.

The wife of glam rocker Ozzy Osbourne, Sharon was one of the three original X Factor judges, alongside Louis and Simon, who took their seats for the inaugural series in 2004.

She left the show in 2007, but returned in 2013 and mentored Sam Bailey all the way to victory.

But Sharon left the show again after just one series when Simon Cowell decided to return, replacing head judge Gary Barlow.

Following the most recent series, judge Nick Grimshaw quit the show amid declining ratings and lacklustre sales of the winner's single from Louis Johnson, which landed in a dismal 12th place.

With the series in poor health, rumours have swirled about who will fill Grimshaw's seat.

Last month, a report by The Mirror claimed that Louis would make a defiant return to the ailing ITV show for the next series.

It claimed he will be paid £800,000 for the new deal, which will see him take a seat alongside Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and a fourth judge.

A source told the publication: 'Simon and Louis work really well together. He provides a perfect foil for Simon.

'They’ve had a couple of phone conversations and it’s looking as if a deal will be done, although no paperwork has yet been signed.'
