From Khal Drogo to Tywin Lannister, Westeros was a male-dominated world when Game Of Thrones first hit screens.

But a lot has changed in five years, and as the men have been variously poisoned, beheaded, castrated or burned alive, the women have been taking over.

In tribute to the strong female characters who now dominate the hit HBO show, Entertainment Weekly dedicated it's latest edition to what it dubs the 'Dame Of Thrones'.

With six covers each featuring a different female lead, it shows just how dominate they now are.

'They power this season. It’s organic to the storytelling, yet a radical shift. It’s the women that are the hope that we’re watching as the chess pieces move this season, and it’s very exciting.'

The ten-episode sixth season of the Emmy winning fantasy series will hit screens next month.

Based on George R.R. Martin's series A Song of Ice and Fire, this will be the first season which takes viewers ahead of the published books.
