Chris Martin keeps his head down as he flies out of LAX on first sighting since 'finalising divorce from Gwyneth Paltrow' two years after 'conscious uncoupling'

They famously coined a new term for a marriage break-up when they announced they were to go their separate ways two years ago.

And Chris Martin cut a low-key figure as he was pictured at Los Angeles International Airport in California on Thursday which marked his first sighting since it was claimed he and Gwyneth Paltrow are formally divorced.

The Coldplay frontman was dressed down for his flight out of the sun-soaked city and his relaxed dress code seemed to mirror his demeanour.

Chris, 39, picked out a pair of blue branded jogging bottoms which he teamed with a long-sleeved white top and a pair of statement trainers.

He seemed a little confused about the weather as he tied a long black wool scarf around his neck while a plain black cap afforded him some coverage.

The chart-topping musician seemed in relatively chilled spirits, keeping his head down as he confidently strode through the airport terminal.

The Sun reported that Chris recently signed the papers filed by his ex wife ten months ago on Thursday.

The couple, parents to daughter Apple, 15, and son Moses, nine, announced their decision to split in March 2014 after ten years of marriage.

Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth, 43, filed for divorce over a year after their split announcement, in April 2015, with Chris handed the legal documents the following month.

A source told the paper: 'Chris has now signed the divorce papers. There was no underlying reason why he had left them for so long and he was planning to do it eventually.

'There is no bad blood between him and Gwyneth and they remain very close. As ever, their number one priority is their kids.'

The couple are expected to receive joint legal and physical custody of their two children and are also likely to split their assets evenly, with their combined fortune amounting to an estimated £120million.

A representative for Chris had no comment when contacted by MailOnline. A representative for Gwyneth has also been contacted.

In an in-depth interview with the Sunday Times last week Chris spoke frankly about his 'very wonderful separation-divorce', branding the situation a 'weird one', and admitting he and Gwyneth still holiday together.

Speaking from Santa Monica, California, he said he had become better at dealing with difficult times.

'You can come at it very aggressively and blame and blame. Or you can put yourself in the garage, so to speak. Take yourself apart and clean off the bits. Reassemble,' he said.

On the details of their relationship, Martin said: 'It's always out there in the media, but I have a very wonderful separation-divorce. It's a divorce but it's a weird one.

'It's funny. I don't think about that word very often- divorce. I don't see it that way. I see it more like you meet someone, you have some time together and things just move through. I've lived a lot of life since then.'

Chris and Gwyneth have remained close friends in the two years since their split, although both have moved onto new partners with the Hollywood star in a relationship with Glee co-creator Brad Falchuk while Chris' girlfriend is British actress Annabelle Wallis.
