'I just love everything about her' David Beckham gushes about the Queen as he recalls 'emotional' OBE acceptance

He is an award-winning footballer who has won prizes both on and off the pitch.

However, David Beckham revealed his proudest moment was receiving his OBE from the Queen, as he joined the host of stars taking part in celebratory documentary Our Queen At Ninety.

The patriotic footballing star, who used to be the captain of the England team, also admitted that he loves 'everything' about the monarch.

Speaking about the Queen ahead of her 90th birthday on 21 April, Beckham said: 'Collecting my OBE was one of the proudest moments.

'That day was special for me because I brought my grandparents with me, it made me proud that I could bring them to somewhere that they worshipped for their whole lives. 

He added: 'Meeting the Queen, it doesn't get better than that.

'You can feel the emotion, I can personally feel the emotion, because I just love everything about our Queen and what she represents. We all look for role models, we all look for leaders.

'I'm privileged and proud that we have the number one leader.'

The former England captain received his OBE at Buckingham Palace in 2003, having been signed to international football since the age of 21.

Speaking at the time, the footballer said it was the 'best' honour he had ever received. 

David will also be attending the Queen's Young Leaders Awards in the Ballroom at Buckingham Palace, where he is a speaker.

Last year, the former footballer took pride of place to celebrate the first ever winners of the programme, alongside David Walliams, Sir John Major, Rob Brydon and Duncan Bannatyne.

The Queen’s Young Leader Award recognises and celebrates exceptional people aged 18-29 from across the Commonwealth, who are taking the lead in their communities and using their skills to transform lives.

The interview will be broadcast on Sunday night's Our Queen At Ninety documentary, on ITV at 8pm.
