'Having cancer is the best thing that’s ever happened to me': Catherine Britt opens up about how her battle has changed her and she's starting her life again at 31

She's gone through a brutal battle with breast cancer in recent months and now country music artist Catherine Britt has opened up about her journey.

The 31-year-old singer - who was diagnosed last June and who has just finished her final radiation treatment after chemotherapy - has penned a piece for The Daily Telegraph.

Catherine reflected on her illness and said it has changed her for the better and she feels she gets to 'start my life again at 31,' saying: 'It’s probably a strange thing to say, but having cancer is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.'

'It’s changed the way I think, the way I go about my everyday life,' adding she is more motivated each day. 

She said she is fortunate to have survived the illness and to inspire others to maintain on top of their health and to think of her journey in a 'positive' light.

She added: 'I get to start my life again at 31 – that’s pretty cool.'

Catherine - who has won awards for her music including a Golden Guitar at the Country Music Awards of Australia in January this year - revealed last June she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.   

In January, she finished her final chemotherapy treatment and had four weeks left of radiation.

She has since finished off her radiation treatment is is set to tour over April and May, with her tour being called: 'F U Cancer.' 

She will play dates in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane and Melbourne.

Three weeks ago, shortly after finishing her treatment, Catherine shared to Instagram a picture of her husband and their pet pooch as they enjoyed some time away together in Kiama, on Sydney's south coast. 

She gushed about her little family online and beating cancer. 

'We have swam, walked, laughed, slept, ate & drank the last week away with a huge relief that I am one of the lucky ones who gets to live after a cancer diagnosis. I am lucky girl and I am so blessed to have these two boys (men) in my life.'

She has also been open with her fans about losing her hair and going bald during her battle.

Catherine started chemotherapy in August and shortly before beginning treatment, underwent IVF to save her eggs.

She first shared the news of her diagnosis in June on Facebook, and told her fans she was in 'shock and disbelief,' and was scheduled for lumpectomy surgery.

'I’ve had some bad news. Three weeks ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer,' part of her Facebook post read.

'I have continued since my diagnosis to get on with my life and career as best I can and have scheduled my treatment around all future tour dates and commitments,' she also said at the time.  

At the recent ARIA Awards in Sydney in November, the artist told Daily Mail Australia she had eight eggs frozen through IVF.

'It was a joyous thing amongst a really horrible time,' she said with a smile. 'I feel like a mum already,' she said. 

Catherine - who is known for hits including Not Your Cinderella and Sweet Emmylou - is married to James Beverly.

The couple secretly eloped to Las Vegas in 2013 to tie the knot, and last October married again in front of friends and family in Newcastle.

They also revealed in October that they had indeed already married. 

She described the day to Daily Mail Australia at the ARIA Awards, as a 'fairytale wedding.'

She also told DMA the pair chose not to postpone the nuptials as it would be 'something really good to look forward to' for her. 

She recently shared with fans online a glimpse of her Las Vegas wedding dress, writing in part of her post: 'I thought I would share this with everyone finally.'
