Madonna - who only recently arrived back home in New York following her Rebel Heart world tour - posted a sweet image of Easter eggs crafted for each of her four children to Instagram.

And while the thoughtful and beautifully crafted hard boiled eggs certainly summed up the family spirit of the day, it appeared that she was possibly to impart some advice.

Posting the snap of basket full of colourful eggs each baring the names of her children - Lourdes aka 'Lola', 19, Rocco, 15, and ten-year-olds David and Mercy  -  the singer also posted a poignant caption.

'Easter = new life,' read the words accompanying the first snap of the family eggs, while she captioned another image of the eggs: 'Don't Put All Your Eggs in One. basket [sic].'

Speaking to the Daily Mirror last week, an insider explained: 'Madonna is going to do whatever it takes to see Rocco.

'She wants to meet with Guy as well to sort out the situation once and for all.'

And while Guy and his family's plans to holiday over Easter in the Maldives are thought to have postponed Madonna's visit, she returned to New York with Mercy and David to enjoy some downtime following the end of her tour in Australia last week.

The question of Rocco's preferred residency occured when the teenager was on tour with his mother in Europe over winter.

Following a series of pit stops across the continent, Rocco - Madonna and Guy's only natural child from their eight year marriage - decided to stay in England with his father and has yet to return to New York, where he previously resided with his mother.

Since January the Snatch director, who is now married to model Jaqui Ainsley, and his ex have been wrangling over the best place for their son to reside: London or New York.
