AMC teases first glimpse of The Walking Dead's bat-wielding baddie Negan

AMC teased the first glimpse of The Walking Dead's villain Negan in a (since deleted) Dutch promo released on Friday.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is 'really f***ing excited' to play the foul-mouthed, charismatic Saviors leader, whose weapon of choice is a barbed wire-wrapped bat called Lucille.

The nefarious Negan makes his big debut on the 90-minute, sixth season finale ominously titled 'Last Day on Earth' airing April 3.

The 6ft2in actor - who turns 50 next month - admitted Negan is similar to his wisecracking character The Comedian in the 2009 superhero flick Watchmen.

'There's definitely some similarities. Negan is special in a lot of ways and the more kind of digging I do into Negan, the more excited I get,' Morgan told EW Radio in December.

'I can't tell you the last time I've been this giddy about doing a role!'

- SPOILERS AHEAD -

Fans of Robert Kirkman's graphic novel are well aware that Negan's 'heartbreaking' entrance in issue 100 involved Glenn Rhee's untimely demise.

But following his near-death fake out in the October 25 episode, it's likely producers are keeping the fan favourite around to welcome his first child with wife Maggie (Lauren Cohan).

There are now murmurings that the AMC-invented Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) will be Negan's first victim, after the crossbow-wielding biker blew several Saviors away with a bazooka in the February 14 episode.
