Directed by Baz Luhrman, the 1970s set series will focus on a group of South Bronx teens during the birth of hip hop, punk and disco.
As part of the recurring cast, Jaden plays a 'psychedelically talented and enigmatic graffiti writer raised in the South Bronx,' according to Netflix.
His mural, dedicated to the Rumi quote 'Where there is ruin, there is hope for treasure', is a central theme for the show.

Minus his usual dreadlocks, Jaden's resemblance to his fellow actor dad Will Smith is striking.
In fact, fans will be sure to draw parallels to the opening credits of The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, in which his father's character is introduced tagging a wall in a playground of West Philadelphia where he was born and raised.

Much of the main cast is made-up of exciting up and coming actors, while Jimmy Smits, who plays political boss Francisco 'Papa Fuerte' Cruz adds some thesp weight.
The series was first announced in February 2010, after Moulin Rouge! director Luhrman spent over a decade working on the concept.
The first season of The Get Down will be thirteen 1-hour episodes; the first six will premiere on Netflix on August 12
