Oh baby! Stones are Havana ball in Cuba: Mick Jagger tells the 500,000 fans who rock into history that 'Times are changing'
It's only rock ’n’ roll but they liked it. Up to 500,000 Cubans gave The Rolling Stones a rapturous welcome on Good Friday as they became the first major international band to play there.
‘Hello Havana! Good evening to my Cuban people,’ shouted Mick Jagger in perfect Spanish as he began the massive free outdoor concert with Jumpin’ Jack Flash.
Later he got a huge roar when he said: ‘We know that years back it was hard to hear our music in Cuba but here we are playing. I think the times are changing.’

VIP fans at the outdoor show in Havana included Sir Richard Branson, Richard Gere and Naomi Campbell
The gig at Havana’s Sports City stadium came despite the Pope asking the band not to play on Good Friday, and just two days after Barack Obama became the first US president in 90 years to visit the Communist-run island.
‘After today I can die,’ said rock fan Joaquin Ortiz, 62, who had to hide his records after Fidel Castro’s government declared Western music ‘subversive’ in the 1960s.
VIP fans at the show included Sir Richard Branson, Richard Gere and Naomi Campbell.
‘This has been an incredible event,’ a Stones insider said. ‘The Stones were the first to play Russia, the first into China. They are always looking for the next big thing and Cuba is it.’
