Larry Russell Dawson (pictured right, and being stretchered to hospital, center) was gunned down by police (pictured is an armed officer at the US Capitol) after he produced the weapon after it triggered metal detectors at the Capitol's visitor center - just hours after an active shooter drill in the government building. Officers shot the 66-year-old, who has been taken to hospital for surgery, before he was able to fire the gun. A female visitor was hit by shrapnel from the police's gunfire. Dawson, a married pastor at St Luke's Spiritual Church in Antioch, Nashville, was banned from entering the Capitol building after an incident last year. He had been arrested in the US Capitol in October for disrupting Congress by yelling 'I am a prophet of God' from the balcony of the House of Representatives. According to court documents Dawson, who also shouted bible verses was removed from gallery but attempted to flee from police. He was charged with assaulting a police officer during his arrest and unlawful conduct at the Capitol. Dawson was slapped with a Stay Away Order - which barred him from entering the U.S. Capitol building, grounds and all Congressional buildings.

Two people dead after being struck by an Amtrak train in an apparent double suicide

Two people were killed when they were struck by an Amtrak train late Sunday morning about two miles south of Oregon City, officials said.

Cascades train No. 506 was traveling from Eugene to Portland when it struck two people on the tracks at 10:50 a.m., Amtrak spokesman Mike Tolbert said. The train's end destination was Seattle.

Deputy Marcus Mendoza, a spokesman with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, said initial indications show the deaths were suicides.

No identification of the victims, or their ages or genders, was immediately available. The sheriff's office said the victims would be identified after the initial investigation and next of kin is notified. 

Officials with Canby police, Amtrak, Union Pacific, which owns the tracks, and the county Medical Examiner's Office were also on the scene. The sheriff's office was leading the investigation.

The two people - who have not been identified - were struck by an Amtrak train Sunday morning just south of Oregon City, Oregon.

College on lockdown after convicted murderer goes missing from Ohio prison

Authorities are hunting for a convicted killer who was reported missing late Sunday night from a Nelsonville prison.

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction has confirmed that John Modie, 58, was absent from the Southeastern Correctional Complex during inmate counts at 11:00 p.m. A thorough search of the facility is being conducted.

The main campus of nearby Hocking College was closed until noon Monday as police search for the escapee, reports CBS Affiliate WBNS.

Modie is currently serving 15 years to life in prison for killing a woman in Cleveland, robbery and escape in 2003. His first parole hearing is set for October 2020.

Modie is described as a white male, 6'4", with grey hair and brown eyes.

John Modie, 58, was last seen at 11pm on Sunday during a headcount inside the Southeastern Correctional Complex in Nelsonville.

Most of the suspected gang members were affiliated with the gangs MS-13, Sureños, Norteños, Eighteenth Street and Bloods, ICE spokesperson Sarah Rodriguez told Daily Mail Online. 'I would say this is on par with what we do in one of these gang surges,' Rodriguez said. 'We do gang enforcement all year round, but once or twice a year we do a surge, where officers drill down on gang leads that they have. It becomes the national focus for a couple of weeks,' she said.
