Many women reserve their killer heels for cocktail parties or nights out at fancy restaurants.

But not so for some of those in the Royal Family. Princess Beatrice and her sister Eugenie turned up in towering stilettos for an Easter Sunday church service with the Queen.

Beatrice, 27, looked a little unstable in her £199 Kurt Geiger black patent leather shoes – supported by just a thin metal rod – while Eugenie, 26, tottered in pink leather heels also by Kurt Geiger.

And their aunt Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, 51, was not to be outdone and wore daring black patent Christian Dior heels with sharp pointed toes and transparent sides.

The women of the royal family stepped out to join the Queen for Easter Day service at St George's Chapel, Windsor, in a rainbow of spring colours - with a notable exception.

Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, her daughter Lady Louise, Princess Anne and her daughter-in-law Autumn Phillips attended the annual service but the Duchess of Cambridge was nowhere to be seen.

As Prince William spends the Bank Holiday weekend in Kenya, it is thought that Kate will bring Prince George and Princess Charlotte to celebrate Easter with her parents in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

The group of siblings, in-laws and cousins laughed and chatted as they walked into the church for the annual service. The family were greeted by the Right Reverend David Connor, who led the Easter Day service.

The Queen was a burst of colour as she attended the church in a primrose coat, and later emerged with Prince Philip smiling and holding a bouquet of flowers.

The monarch was presented with the spring posy by a young well-wisher who waited her arrival outside the chapel. The young girl curtsied before the Queen before handing her the Easter bouquet which perfectly complimented her yellow ensemble.

The Queen may have opted for a soft festive shade but her children, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and granddaughters-in-law appeared to have got the memo about spring shades.

Princess Eugenie looked elegant in a belted navy coat accompanied by a pink fascinator, as she chatted to her 12-year-old cousin Lady Louise. A chic Princess Beatrice joined them, wearing a stylish robin's egg blue mac with spike heeled shoes and a clutch.

Beatrice and Eugenie were united in their style choices opting for luxury milliner Juliette Botterill to top off their Easter ensembles. Beatrice's copper coloured off set her pastel Topshop trench perfectly while her sister Eugenie's floral pillbox was the perfect tribute.

Adding a little quirk to her outfit, Beatrice carried a crisp packet clutch from British designer Anya Hindmarch that retails at £995 paired with her patent leather Kurt Geiger shoes.

Unfortunately the Princess made a small fashion faux pas by leaving the sticky label on the sole of her right shoe.

Prince Edward's daughter appears to be following in her mother's footsteps and developing a keen sense of fashion, stepping out in a beret and white wool coat as she enjoyed conversation with her older cousin.

Sophie Wessex paid tribute to Kate's favourite designer donning a stylish wrap-around scarlet coat from Sportmax and black felt hat along with black patent leather high heeled shoes.

Peter and Autumn Phillips were also in attendance with Peter's mother Princess Anne, after spending Good Friday at the Gatcome Horse Trials together.

Canadian Autumn stood out in a bright pink coat as she chatted to Edward and Sophie's son James, Viscount Severn.

Avoiding the rain, Princess Anne was seen arriving in a chauffeur driven vehicle, but breaking royal tradition was pictured sat in the front seat of the car chatting to her driver, rather than seated in the back.

But it seemed that Kate, who joined the Queen and Prince Philip for Christmas at Sandringham, preferred to be with her family while she was left home alone.

Her Majesty traditionally celebrates with Prince Philip and other senior royals including the Countess of Wessex and her grandchildren Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

In recent years, Prince William, Kate and Prince Harry have not spent Easter with the Queen.

Also, not in attendance was Zara Phillips and her husband Mike Tindall, even though her brother and mother were at Windsor. There was also no sign of Prince Charles and Camilla, after their return from the tour of the Balkans.

Prince Harry was also absent from today's service after extending his five day trip to Nepal by a further six days in order to help rebuild a school that was ruined in an earthquake in the Himalayas.

Harry isn't the only one to be spending time abroad with older brother William staying in Kenya on a wildlife reserve in order to attend the wedding of his ex girlfriend Jessica Craig.

Prince Andrew and Edward shared some brotherly bonding time on the approach to the chapel.

The wind appeared to play havoc for the royals however as the women were seen clutching at their hats while entering the church for today's service.

This is not the first time we will see many of these royals on Easter Sunday as many will make an appearance in a candid documentary on ITV tonight in celebration of the Queen's 90th year.

Our Queen at 90 will be broadcast at seven o'clock this evening and will feature interviews with more royals than any documentary before it.

The Queen will celebrate her birthday on April 21 at Windsor Castle, but there are events around the UK until June to mark the occasion – the first time a reigning monarch has turned 90.

Members of the Royal family contribute to the special programme, which will be broadcast tonight on ITV at 8pm.
