'It's all about to get a bit farmyard in here!' Mothers reveal the eye-watering comments made by midwives DURING childbirth

  • Parents share horror stories on parenting website Mumsnet
  • Midwives called large babies 'aliens', 'gorillas' and 'Tellytubies'
  • One mum told baby had no heartbeat after medics forgot to plug monitor in
  • Another heard a midwife say 'I wasn't actually that drunk last night'

Mothers have been sharing the eye-watering things they've heard doctors and midwives say before and during childbirth.

Comments about the size of a baby's head seemed to top the list of horror comments on the thread on parenting site Mumsnet, while the painful stitches afterwards also had many wincing.

Answering the discussion about the 'words you never want to hear from the midwife', one mother even divulged that her doctor had told her 'it was about to get a little bit farmyard' as he pulled out the forceps to deliver her son.

But, thankfully, user NewMinouMinou said it hadn't bothered her at the time as she had already been in labour for 30-odd hours and had undergone an epidural.

Talking about the size of babies' heads, some doctors and midwives appear to have some strange terminology.

TeaBelle revealed her midwife told her her baby had a 'melon head' while mojojojo838 was told her child had a 'massive head - like alien.' Unsurprisingly, she had a C-section.

User Liiyo, meanwhile, recalled being left terrified at her 35-week scan when a doctor or nurse said: 'That's a gorilla of a baby in there, God knows how we'll get that out.'

Liiyo continued: 'After a terrifying and long labour I gave birth to a 2.990 kg baby. That's around 6lbs - perfectly reasonable for me. I'm sure fear played a part in my pain.'

Greeningthedesert said her friend was told her baby had a 'big head and a tiny body - just like a Teletubby.' 'She was not best pleased with the doctor's creative imagery,' she added.

Once the babies had arrived, the mums also had a whole host of other stories from when they were being stitched up after the childbirth.

After giving birth to a 10lbs 10 oz baby, another user, Fourarmsv2, revealed her midwife said: 'I've done my best with the stitching but the flesh is just ripping. You've got a bit of a gaping hole down there.'

She added that she never 'dared look' afterwards but said her husband told her it 'looked the same'.

In a comment that would be enough to make anyone wince, user Oohthatstung said she heard the student midwife say: 'Does this bit go there?' as she stitched her up.

Similarly, sn0wdr0p4 was told after the birth of 'Dear Daughter Two' (DD2): 'I'm not going to lie to you, it's a bit of a mess down there.'

And MrsJamin had to go through the pain twice over after being told 'we're going to have to undo your stitches and do them all over again' after the student midwife's 'bad sewing job'.

'Hurt more than labour as the pain relief kept not working as they were taking so b****y long. Not a good experience!' she said.

Meanwhile, user MargaretCabbage was left terrified after being told: 'Your labia is very swollen, I'm just going to call the doctor because sometimes they can explode.'

The comments on the thread, which currently stand at nearly 400, range from the eye-watering to the absolutely terrifying.

User NoCapes recalled how she heard the midwife say during labour: 'Oh, s*** dad press that big red button behind you.'

'Now you never want to hear that from a midwife,' she added.

Another horror story came from U2HasTheEdge, who was told that the doctors 'couldn't find' her baby's heartbeat.

She wrote: 'Emergency button pressed. Midwives and doctors everywhere. Another midwife: "Oh, we forgot to plug the monitor in". Heartbeat found.'

But for one other mum, she was left worried about whether midwife was up to the job after she overheard them say: 'I wasn't actually that drunk last night.'
