Anthony Joshua works on hand-eye co-ordination as he sharpens his reflexes for IBF showdown with Charles Martin in April

  • Anthony Joshua was using a piece of equipment called the Rebounder
  • It helps with reflexes and agility as you have to react to the incoming ball
  • The 26-year-old has also been training in sand for his upcoming title clash
  • Charles Martin says he will keep his belt and he walks this earth like a god

As the saying goes in boxing, 'all it takes is one punch' - especially in the heavyweight scene where failure to notice an incoming shot can have devastating consequences.

That is why Anthony Joshua is leaving no stone unturned, as he looks to avoid being on the end of one of Charles Martin's accurate left hooks at the O2 on April 9th.

Having already worked on his footwork in the sand, the Olympic gold medallist continued his varied methods of preparation, this time testing his hand-eye co-ordination using a special piece of equipment called a 'Rebounder.'

WHAT EXACTLY IS A REBOUNDER?

Rebounder training is perfect for hand eye co-ordination. Using a soft ball - the smaller the better, throw it against the flat surface. You will be able to improve your agility and reaction times, as the incoming ball returns back at you with considerable speed, keeping you engaged and testing your reflexes.

This type of training is especially key in improving agility and reaction time and only allows for split-second adjustments in your thinking, depending on the size of the ball you use to throw against the trampoline-like surface.

Alongside performance coach Jamie Reynolds, the Watford fighter uploaded a short clip to his Instagram account, showing that his reflexes appear to be very much up to speed.

The IBF title showdown, which will be Joshua's first crack at the belt - having only had 15 professional fights to date, will also be the visiting American's maiden title defence and given the cool persona he has shown throughout negotiations, his confident predictions on the outcome hardly seem out of place.

'It's not going 12 rounds. We're the lions of the sport. If you're going 12 rounds and you're a heavyweight, something's wrong,' he said during a face-to-face with Joshua on Sky Sports' latest edition of The Gloves Are Off.

'I'm going to handle my business as the world champion. I'm even hungrier because I want it all. I'm confident I can't be beat. I'm the champ, baby. I'm going to keep on being the champ so I'm going to knock him out Period. I'm not going to call a round – when I see it, I'm going to do it.

'You're in front of me now and I'm going to step right over you. I walk this earth like a God. That's who I am. I'm world champion now and she's staying right there with me.'
