Robin Wright looks set to join Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling in highly-anticipated sci-fi sequel Bladerunner 2

Plans for a sequel to the iconic sci-fi thriller Bladerunner took another step forward Thursday with the news that Robin Wright looks set to join the cast.

The House Of Cards stunner is reported by Variety to be in final negotiations to appear in the movie set several decades after the 1982 original that was set in 2019 Los Angeles.

She'll join original star Harrison Ford plus Ryan Gosling in the highly-anticipated project that will be directed by Sicario's Denis Villeneuve.

The as-yet-untitled film is slated for a January 2018 release and is based on a story by Hampton Fancher and Ridley Scott.

Hancher, who co-wrote the original script, has written the sequel screenplay with Michael Green. Scott who directed Bladerunner is on board as a producer.

Bladerunner starred Ford as a former cop tasked with tracking down genetically engineered replicants who, having been sent into space, stole a spaceship and returned to Earth illegally in order to extend their life spans.

Wright is currently starring in the fourth season of Netflix's House Of Cards.

She's also filming Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot and Chris Pine.
