The Disappeared (Second Edition)

Out of stock

"This is an emotional book that deals with the vanishing of memory while insisting on recovering it.  It states a fight over power between the passing of time and the devastating effects that this brings with it.
Symbolically, while images retain their graphics memory, they gradually dissolves and distance themselves from their original presence while generating a transparency that can be added to other faces, other forms of visual memory, that construct a new image.
In this case images represent the face of horror, but above all, the face of an immense pain and the silence of a sick silent society.
Definitely “The Disappeared“ is a book that defines the identity of absence, not only by images but also in words, through anonymous and blurred trails of what used to be a presence, and therefore part of life."
Ciuco Gutierrez

Focusing on the main concept of the book -blurring and dissolution of identity- I decided to make the whole book disappear.
With the use of chemicals, the original images were transferred into a new paper, vanishing their original form and suggesting only their traces.
This new dissolved images were photographed and used to recreate a new book, with the exact same sequence of the first edition.

We are an independent publishing house, based between Spain and Azerbaijan, specialised in handmade limited edition artist’s books.

Born in November 2013, RIOT BOOKS is the product of two curious minds: Ilkin Huseynov and Verónica Fieiras.

Interested in how human beings project themselves into their artistic creations, we aim to produce emotional books as objects.

Following the idea of working closely with each artist, exchanging personal views and working side by side in every stage of the production and promoting their work as much as we can.

We are always happy to receive proposals from brave and talented artists.
