Jose Mourinho was in the stands as Fulham entertained MK Dons in a relegation six-pointer at Craven Cottage in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday.

The former Chelsea manager, who was sacked from his position at Stamford Bridge in December, was on hand to watch over the relegation battle as Slavisa Jokanovic's side looked to move away from the drop zone in south-west London.

Mourinho was in relaxed mood as he took his seat for the 3pm kick-off down by the River Thames, a short trip from where he once plied his trade and the Portuguese has remained in the capital since his departure from the Blues over four months ago.

The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss was spotted watching Brighton entertain Middlesbrough the day after his sacking in December, paying a visit to the away dressing room at the AMEX to congratulate his close personal friend Aitor Karanka on the 3-0 victory.

Mourinho has kept a low profile since parting company with Chelsea just four months into a disastrous defence of their Premier League title but since his departure, speculation has been rife about the 53-year-old's next destination.

Manchester United are believed to be the front-runners, but the Old Trafford club may be faced with a May deadline to agree a deal with the sought-after manager should they wish to cut short Louis van Gaal's contract.

United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has ignored Mourinho's availability thus far, with the Red Devils aiming to record a fourth straight home win against Everton on Sunday.

With United currently on a good run and fully focused on trying to overtake rivals Manchester City in the Champions League spots, Mourinho's public appearance in the Spring sunshine has placed him firmly back in the minds of supporters.

With Fulham currently 21st in the Championship and MK Dons marginally worse off in 22nd, it is unlikely that Mourinho was on a scouting mission ahead of his next managerial post, but he looked happy to be in attendance nonetheless.

He had to wait until the second-half for the deadlock to be broken, but when it eventually arrived it came from a familiar source with Ross McCormack firing the hosts in front with his 22nd goal of the season.

The visitors responded against the run of play nine minutes later as Josh Murphy latched onto Jake Forster-Caskey's long ball to blast his shot beyond Marcus Bettinelli, but Moussa Dembele's finish from McCormack's gave Fulham a priceless victory to move four points clear of the drop.
