Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice clings on to top spot at the box office for a second week with $52.4m in sales despite being panned by critics and ticket sales taking a huge nosedive

Despite facing some harsh words from film critics, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has remained victorious at the box office for a second straight week.

Although ticket sales had greatly diminished, the movie, which pits two iconic superheroes against one other, earned $52.4 million in its second weekend, according to estimates from industry tracker Exhibitor Relations.

However in its debut weekend, the Zack Snyder-directed picture raked in a whopping $166 million despite the number of negative reviews.

Starring Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill in the role of Superman, the characters' first big-screen pairing sets up the coming Justice League and Wonder Woman movies.

A stellar cast for the Warner Bros. blockbuster also features former Miss Israel Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as the eccentric villain Lex Luthor, and Amy Adams as Superman's love interest Lois Lane.

Meanwhile, Animated Disney film Zootopia about an intrepid rabbit police officer who works with a fox to solve a crime in the Zootopia animal kingdom was in second place for a second week, earning $20.0 million.

The popular animated film originally had the fourth highest March opening ever and a best for a Disney Animation three-day debut when it premiered last month.

Zootopia - which has characters voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, and Idris Elba - currently boasts a 99% 'fresh' rating on Rotten Tomatoes.  

Comedy sequel My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, which reunites the main cast from the 2002 sleeper hit of the same name, earned $11.1 million, landing in third.

Rounding out the list: Jennifer Garner's drama Miracles from Heaven came in fifth place with $7.6 million (pictured with co-stars Queen Latifah and Kylie Rogers)

The sequel follows the boisterous Portokalos family as they ban together to put on an 'even bigger and Greeker wedding' once it's revealed that one of the long-married couples is actually missing an important signature on their wedding certificate, making it null and void. 

Debuting in fourth was another sequel, God's Not Dead 2, about a public school teacher who answers a student's question about Jesus and finds herself in hot water with the law. It raked in $8.1 million.

Landing in fifth was Miracles from Heaven, a drama starring Jennifer Garner about a young girl suffering from a rare digestive disorder who finds herself miraculously cured. The movie took in $7.6 million.
