I got your style, babe: How Kim Kardashian started stealing Cher's style years before revealing that her Met Gala gown was inspired by one of the singer's ensembles

If she could turn back time - well, Kim Kardashian might just want to wear some of Cher's old clothes.

But even with all of her star power, Kim, 34, can't actually control the universe, so she's made do with simply recreating many of the the singer's iconic looks, from her breezy '70s ensembles to her over-the-top costumes of the '80s and '90s to Cher’s first ever Met Gala ensemble.

According to Kim, the sheer Roberto Cavalli gown that she wore to Monday night's event in New York was specifically inspired by the feathered Bob Mackie dress that 68-year-old Cher wore to the first-ever Met Gala in 1974 – and the similarities between the pair certainly don’t stop there.

She’s a fashion devotee to her favorite designers Givenchy and Balmain, but Kim Kardashian is continuing to dip her toes into the style world and has made her first debut in Roberto Cavalli for the 2015 Met Gala. And we didn't think we'd see so much of her.

Reminiscent of Beyonce's 2012 Met Gala appearance in a semi sheer Givenchy gown which made headlines, Kim made it clear it was her time to shine in the intricately created crystal and feather embellished creation designed by Peter Dundas who has returned to the helm of Cavalli.

And since it’s her first time wearing the Italian brand, we think she’s done a great job of pulling off the dramatic feather-train dress in synchrony with the evening’s oriental theme. That’s two birds with one stone, for you!

Designed to flatter her hourglass figure with its form-fitting design and see-through inserts in all of the right places, Dundas made sure Kim winged it at tonight's Met Gala, and it's one of the best looks we've seen on her to date thanks to its manic simplicity.

Sadly, Kim's dress is not available to buy since it's past season, but you can shop Cavalli's current collection at Net-a-Porter (click right) or check out our favorite white sheer maxi dresses in the edit below.

'I just met her and told her [that dress] was my inspiration for my dress tonight! She is so beautiful! So happy I met her!,' Kim told her Instagram followers after running into Cher at the event, adding that, in addition to talking about the dress, they also discussed their Armenian backgrounds.

And as Cher once helped designer Bob Mackie skyrocket to superstar designer status when she started wearing his clothes, Kim seems to be hoping to do the same with her dress' designer, Peter Dundas, as well.

The newly-appointed creative director for Roberto Cavalli, Peter designed the gorgeous piece of couture that Kim wore just for her, the first gown he had designed for the label.

But this was certainly not the first time that Kim seemed to have taken pointers from the I Got You Babe crooner's fashion archive.

Back in 2011, Kim stepped out in a white-on-white ensemble that was nearly identical to one Cher wore in 1973, down to her matching oversized floppy white hat.

Kim also shares Cher's penchant for showing plenty of skin; the superstar mom has worn a number of sheer and belly-baring outfits that were more than just slightly reminiscent of looks her fashion inspiration had worn years before.

And the pair's similarities are more than just designer-clothes-deep.

As Kim mentioned on Instagram, they both share Armenian heritage; Kim's paternal grandparents were from the Eastern European country, and Cher's father was also Armenian-American.

Both brunette stars were also raised in California as children of divorced parents, who then went on to become cultural icons with widely-documented fashion influence.
