What a drag! Claire Danes tries to disguise herself in oversized beanie cap as she smokes a cigarette in NYC

She survived a bombing, an ambush in Kabul and foiled a sarin gas attack, as her character Carrie Mathison.

But Claire Danes ignored another risk to her health, as she sucked on a cigarette in Manhattan on Monday.

The 36-year-old actress was spotted smoking as she stepped out in NYC, wearing a stylish cream knee-length coat with black buttons.

The Golden Globe winner told Jimmy Fallon last week that she's enjoying walking to work, while she's starring in an off-Broadway play.

And perhaps the opportunity to take a drag on the way is one reason why.

She showed off her slim legs in black trousers and stylish knee-high black suede boots.

The blonde beauty covered her head with a knitted charcoal hat, and she went make-up free for the outing.

Keeping up with her current hectic schedule, it's no surprise that the mother-of-one looked a bit tired throughout her walk.

The Homeland star - who is currently starring in the off-Broadway play Dry Powder - is juggling her theatre commitments with being a mom to her three-year-old son Cyrus with husband Hugh Dancy.

She was also spotted hosting her in-laws at the weekend, stepping out for a walk together - although noticeably Claire didn't smoke in front of them.

Her play at Public Theatre is directed by Hamilton's Thomas Kail, and described as a 'viciously, deliciously funny new drama about the people shaping, and skewing, the American economy.'

The production, which also stars John Krasinski and Hank Azaria, is scheduled to run through May 1 at the Public Theater in NYC.

Make the cut in Alexander Wang like Claire

Claire Danes was spotted in Manhattan earlier this week, hiding under a knit beanie while enjoying a cigarette out on the street. The Homeland actress wore a cream-colored A-line jacket, and had accessorized her look with a pair of trendy black suede boots from Alexander Wang. So right for Spring!

These boots have equally been spotted on Kendall Jenner, and stick out among other boots thanks to their cut-out heel. With or without a statement heel, black boots are always timeless and elegant and should be part of every woman’s closet as they easily transcend from winter to Spring.

Claire’s boots from Alexander Wang are available from Shopbop, so click right to pick them up to be bang on trend this season! If you’re feeling inspired by her style but keen on smaller price tags, then scroll below for our alternative selection starting from only $70 at Boohoo!

Meanwhile, Claire is signed up to return as Carrie Mathison for a sixth season of her hit Showtime series this September 2016.

It was recently revealed that the upcoming season of Claire's popular series would shift focus to be more 'domestically' based.

When asked for details, Showtime president David Nevins revealed: 'It will be set domestically, primarily in the New York area.'
