Barcelona came unstuck at the weekend when Real Madrid secured a 2-1 El Clasico victory ‒ but it was the visitors' manager Zinedine Zidane who stole the post-match spotlight in bizarre fashion.

A late winner from Real superstar Cristiano Ronaldo after Karim Benzema had cancelled out Gerard Pique's opener saw the visitors battle to a memorable comeback victory at the Nou Camp.

But before the French coach could join in on the celebrations, Zidane attended the routine post-match press conference to discuss his team's victory.

However, the Frenchman ‒ who enjoyed a trophy-laden career as a player ‒ forgot to remove his chewing gum prior to taking his seat.

Rather than finding a tissue or looking for a bin, the 43-year-old opted to stick it under his rival's press table before taking questions on Saturday night.

But the courteous boss, who had various clashes with Barcelona during his playing days, ensured the sticky situation didn't come back to haunt him.

Zidane gave Barca no reason to be angry by retrieving his chewing gum before he made his way out the press room to return to his match-winning players.

The moment Zidane was caught on camera hiding his chewing gum came after his Real team won against the odds at the La Liga leaders.

Benzema's acrobatic strike cancelled out Pique's headed opener, but with Sergio Ramos sent off with seven minutes remaining, Ronaldo's late winner left the Nou Camp stunned.

Despite their first defeat in 40 matches, Barcelona remain strong favourites to retain their title. They sit seven points ahead of Real and six above Atletico Madrid, who thrashed Real Betis 5-1.

But Real gave their title hopes a boost with victory and travel to Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday.
